Obituary of Kenneth Edwin Born
Kenneth Edwin Born passed away quietly in his sleep on May 20, 2020, at his home in Olympia, WA after his battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father Eugene, mother Larue, wife Arlene, stepson Ron, and grandson Jacob. Ken was born in Yakima, WA to Eugene W. and Larue I. (Miller) on October 5, 1937. He was the youngest of two sons, brother Glenn Born currently living in Sequim, WA. Ken is survived by four children, Kevin Born (Olympia), Daniel Born (Pittsburgh), Kanina Chavez (Lacey), and Doug Born (Tacoma). He also had two step-children, Ron Marlette (deceased) and Robin (Marlette) Bassett (Lacey). Ken had 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. After Ken graduated from high school in Sunnyside, WA, he went to college in LaVerne, CA and received his teaching degree. Ken worked as a teacher and counselor with the Olympia School District for over 30 years and was able to mold the lives of many students and mentor co-workers. He loved to travel, explore, camp, fish, laugh and work with wood. Many of you may have one of his birdhouses, planter boxes or whirligigs in your yard right now. Ken also had a great love of music. He was actively involved with the SPEBSQSA Barbershop Harmony Society. He was a member of several barbershop quartets as well as a chorus member and director. Ken was loved and will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends. The celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on July 18, 2020, at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater, WA. Reception immediately following interment.
