Kenneth Wallace Kydland, age 74, passed away peacefully at St Peter Hospital in Olympia, surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born on August 24, 1944 in Aberdeen, Washington to Wallace and Marian (Ivall) Kydland. Ken graduated North Thurston High School, Lacey Washington in 1962.
Ken served four years in the United States Army and spent two of those years in the Vietnam War. On August 20, 1977 he married his sweetheart Debbie (Houser) Kydland. Ken began his career as a Police Officer with Lacey Police Department December 23, 1968 and retired after 20 years. As a police officer he was a hardworking, honest, kind man who was a well-respected mentor. He was a considerate, caring friend who was funny and had a sweet soul. Truly, a one of a kind, amazing man who adored his family.
He had two daughters, a grandson and granddaughter. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with his friends and family. Some of his favorite times were working around the farm with his family and going out to coffee and lunch with his friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his father Wallace Kydland, his mother Marian Kydland and his brother Gary Kydland.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Debbie (Houser) Kydland; daughters Jennifer D. Kydland, Kristina L. Kydland; grandson, Bradley D. McGannon and granddaughter, Laney A. McGannon; sister, Debi A. Kydland; and two brothers and sisters in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 3pm at Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey, WA.
Ken’s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for the care and compassion they showed Ken during the last few weeks of his life as well as all the medical professionals at St. Peter Hospital that assisted in his care.
