Mr. Norwood was an amazing advocate for all of his students.  During the latter part of my time at Capital HS (1981 graduate), I took as many business classes as possible to prepare myself for the workforce, so I could support myself while attending college once I left HS. At the time I didn't think Mr. Norwood knew my name, let alone my background and skill sets.  And, perhaps he didn't know me.  However, he was one who believed in all his students, did his homework with teachers who did know their students, and always stood behind them and encouraged them to achieve to high standards.

I was one of those students who benefited from his unconditional support.  He was a strong supporter of the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) and a founding member.  AWSP was looking for a high school student who had the drive to learn and succeed in business.  Jim Baird (best teacher ever!) recommended me to Larry.  Larry supported me wholeheartedly on Jim's recommendation. I successfully worked and grew while at AWSP, setting a strong foundation for my future professional career.  Throughout my years working at AWSP, I enjoyed Larry's continued support and pride in my achievements.  By the time I left, 10 years later, my relationship moved from student to colleague with Larry.  

I will be forever grateful for his unconditional belief in my ability to achieve.  It was because of his love for education and student success and my personal experience of his belief in me, that I continued on a career path in K-12 Human Resources. 

He was fun, loving, respectful, a model for all students to dream "big," and an amazing human being! 

Thank you Larry for your selfless service in education and to the success of so many students.  You will be missed!

I have always felt very fortunate to have had Mr. Norwood (can't call him anything else!) as my Principal at Capital High School from the day CHS opened in the fall of 1975 until my graduation in June 1978.  Mr. Norwood showed up at our 10th High School Reunion looking just as he had the day of our graduation.  He always seemed calm and positive plus showed a lot of respect to his students.  Thank you Mr. Norwood for giving me a good start before I headed out into the world!
