She was born to Alfred Ingle Burnham and Hellen Dorathy Dusing.
She passed March 21, 2019 in Centralia at the age of 92.
She married Donald Dean Conway September 15, 1944. They had two
children. (Dean and Rod) Unfortunately, he was killed on his way home from
the war.
Gloria went on to marry Kenneth Carver December 23, 1946. They had three
children. Kenny-Bill, Charlene and Ronnie.
Before Gloria was married and had kids, she worked at the Tacoma ship yard
as a welder. She would catch the bus early in the morning from Rainier to go
to work. After marriage, while raising her 5 children she worked at Wrigglesworth
Chicken farm. Seasonally, she worked at Wards Berry Farm and
often took her kids with her.
Gloria loved to sew. Baby blankets, pot holders, quilts and pillows were just a
few of her favorite items. She was also handy with leather works. Her
favorite thing to sew was moccasins and beaded keys chains. She used to
bead with her grand-kids. She made all her grandkids western shirts when
they rodeoed, especially for Charlene, Tonya and Marissa for Barrel Racing.
Gloria and Lisa (her late granddaughter) learned how to create and build deer
horn sea grass baskets. She enjoyed playing cards with her grand kids. She
would get after her great grandson James Dean” JD” for cheating.
Gloria loved sports...she was a big Seahawk and Mariner fan. She was in love
with Edgar Martinez. He was her hero. When she turned 80, Ron, Becky
Marissa, Hayden and Austin took Grandma to her first Mariners game at
Safeco Field. She loved it. College sports was also a big part of her life. She
never missed a husky football, basketball or volleyball game. Didn’t matter if
Lillian Gloria Carver it were the boys or girls that were playing, she was watching.
She supported allher children in competitive sports by attending all their games and performances.
And it didn’t stop with her children, it continued with her grandchildren all the way down to JD.
Gloria and Beverly would work on puzzles together. They had an ongoing
puzzle on the dining room table.
Gloria was raised in the western world...she was very involved in the Pacific
Northwest Rodeo Association; local barrel racing and jackpot team roping’s.
She followed and watched her children all over the state in competition and
took pride in watching her grandchildren compete in the NW Junior Rodeo
Association. She was also on the board of the Roy Rodeo committee. She
timed the Roy Rodeo for 35 plus years. Gloria also worked for Erb Rodeos
(Gary & Norma Erb) traveling all over the Pacific Northwest timing.
One of her greatest passions was her race horses. Her business partner in crime
was her oldest son Dean. Her and Dean had many race horses and traveled all
over Washington, Oregon, Idaho California, and Kentucky to watch them run.
