Lilly “June” Goodwin was born on June 15, 1928 in Tenino, Washington to John Anton and Jessie Webster Strand. She passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013. Known by many as Grandma or Aunt June, she grew up in Rainier, Washington. After venturing off to California for several years it was to Rainier she returned and devoted her time to her family and raising her children. She later enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, road trips throughout Washington and spending time at Hood Canal. She was also an avid reader and loved her daily crossword puzzle.
June spent the last 25 years in Lacey, Washington where she met many new friends. Regardless of where she lived, she always found a little patch of outdoor space to raise and tend her flower garden. We will give every single one a good home and lots of TLC Mom—not to worry. A pot of soup was forever on the stove and available to all. And thank goodness she spent the last few years teaching her granddaughter how to make gravy at every holiday gathering or we would all be in trouble! She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The past several years she has especially enjoyed hanging out with her youngest grand-daughter Jessica. They kept each other company often.
June is survived by her brothers Rick Olson and Gordon Strand (Sally) and sister Ella Mae Reichel, her children Bob (Martha), Wendy (Jack), Jay (Tammy) and Joe, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister Betty Pierce.
While her rheumatoid arthritis slowed her down a bit over the years we were forever losing her during shopping outings. Gone in a flash! We’re pretty sure you’re power shopping as we speak. You go Mom! Love you always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Mills and Mills Funeral Home, Tumwater, Washington.
