Luz-Azalia Holloway, 71, of Olympia passed away on 13 April 2021. She was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on 9 April 1950, graduated from Colegio Bautista in 1968 and immediately joined the US Army. At Fort McPherson she was attached to the Women's Army Corp (WAC) as an inventory specialist. Her next station was in Zweibrucken, FRG where she met Richard C Holloway and the two were married on 3 September 1971 in Spokane, WA. Luz earned an honorable discharge from the Army and then joined the Washington Air National Guard until 1974.
Luz's passions were helping people and her faith. She worked in social services as a therapist and for the Catholic Community Services. Luz volunteered with the Red Cross and also achieved her life goal of joining the Peace Corps. During her year of service she lived and taught English in the Ukraine. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lacey, WA.
Luz's hobbies were painting, hiking, beachcombing, picnicking, and being with friends and family. Her house was filled with her paintings, pictures, and 'treasures' from beachcombing. Luz loved family game nights and would always spend most of the time laughing. She also enjoyed DJ'ing dances for her United Singles events.
Luz lost her battle with Brain Cancer after being diagnosed six months earlier. She passed in her home in Olympia, WA resting peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Luz was a loving mother and a fun and attentive grandmother. She is survived by her children, Juan-Marcos and Clarissa, and five grandchildren Tyson, Ian, Anna, Mina, and Jack.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:30 AM, 27 April 2021, at Mills & Mills Memorial followed by a burial with military honors at 2:30 PM. As was her wish, she will be laid to rest in Tahoma National Cemetery next to her husband, so they may be together again for eternity.
