Madison Victor Scott Jr. was born October 26, 1921 in Hannibal, Missouri to Madison Victor Scott, Sr. and Ruby Smith Scott. Vic attended University of Missouri, but answered the call of duty of World War II to serve honorably in the Army in Europe. Army buddy Bob Gallup ( who became Vic's lifelong friend), introduced Vic to his sister Betty after the war and Vic and Betty married in 1947 to begin 48 years of life together.
After returning to University of Missouri after the war, Vic's work career began with Standard Oil. But as Vic and Betty's family began to grow, he turned to real estate so he could spend more time with family. Vic's outgoing personality and business acumen led him to a long successful real estate career in Joliet, Illinois, including owning his own company and later establishing real-estate franchises for ERA in many states.
Vic and Betty moved to Bellevue, WA in the mid 1980's and Vic delighted in discovering all the very best restaurants the west coast had to offer. His love for travel took Vic and Betty on trips to many states and countries, and his love for people meant he typically made new friends each place they went.
After Betty's death in 1995, Vic met Carol McVicar whom he had known in high school and he married Carol and moved to Seattle. Vic and Carol enjoyed more travel, as well as active participating at church, and attending numerous musical performances and plays.
As Vic's health declined, he met the challenges of increasing physical limitations with grace and dignity, and - of course - made many new friends of staff and residents at St Anne's Nursing Home.
At the core, Vic treasured family. He always was actively involved in the lives of his children Nancy, Judy, and Mike, whether it was attending their school activities, teaching them how to ride a bike or swing a baseball bat, willingly chauffeuring carloads of giggly teenagers, sharing his love of travel with cross country treks in the station wagon, telling his made up bedtime stories about a family of gophers, offering his wisdom, love and support always.
Family love extended to Vic faithfully attending many, many baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, and ballet events as he made sure that his grandchildren Mike, Emily, Olivia and Amanda also knew the deep love he had for them. After his marriage to Carol, he warmly embraced her children Janice Williams, Wendy (Randy) Stoddard, and Paul (Jean) McVicar, and more grandchildren. Vic's extended family now spans children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Vic filled his 90 years well. The pain of losing him is very sharp, but the warmth of his love and the wonderful memories he has left us bring comfort and peace.
