When you were born you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life so when you die… the world cries and you rejoice!

And so she did…
My beautiful Mom, Marian Isabelle Gerhardt Sollie at 102 yrs old, peacefully passed away on August 7, 2015 into the hands of our Heavenly Father. She reunites in the Lord’s house with her husband Gylfi Magnar Sollie, who passed away in 1998, and with her daughter Gail who preceded her in death in 2013. Mom has said many times that a mother should not pass away before her child. Today Mom you will be able to join Gail and Dad forever.
Marian was born on April 4, 1913 to Lulu (Loomis) and Harry Gerhardt in Aberdeen, WA and was the youngest of 8 children. She had 2 sisters and 5 brothers. She graduated from Weatherwax High School and for a time was employed by S.H. Kress and worked in Seattle at Safeco Insurance Company for 5 years but spent most of her years as a wonderful homemaker, Mom, grandma and great-grandma.
Gylfi and Marian married in Aberdeen WA on July 29, 1937 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and celebrated 60 wonderful years together. They spent some time living in Seattle but retired in Olympia, Washington in 1976.
Marian was a wonderful seamstress, gardener and avid reader. She sang in the church choir and played the piano and organ in our home for the enjoyment of her family. Her love for her family was unconditional. No one can ever remember hearing a coarse or angry word from her. She always shared a good word or a warm smile with those she met.
Marian lived 15 years at Capital Retirement Place in Olympia, WA. She felt very much at home there and enjoyed playing games and the activities they offered with her many friends she made throughout her years there. She seemed to have a wonderful card sense and had such fun telling us about her winnings! She loved Bridge, pinnacle, 31, kings in the corner, poker, and let’s not forget bingo! On most days you could catch her at the card table in the recreation room.
Marian is survived by her daughter Beth ( Jerry ) Moodenbaugh of Olympia WA. Her seven grandchildren: Linda (Robert) Myers of Columbus,OH; Wade (Janice) Richards of Fort Gratiot, MI ; Jill ( Jacob) Ramig of Saint Peters, MO: Mark (Lore) Moodenbaugh of Olympia, WA; Blake (Tansy) Moodenbaugh of Olympia, WA; Nicole (Jody) Dronen Tumwater,WA; Kyle ( Celia) Moodenbaugh of Tumwater,WA. and 16 great-grand children; Blake, Will, Mimi, Becca, Tori, Anastasia, Charlotte, Harrison, Luke, Logan, Allison, Kylie, Londyn, Caleb, Madisen, and Jaxsen. Her nieces and nephew; Janice Gerhardt, Fred Gerhardt, Pat Burge, Diane Butler and Carol Furstenwerth.
May you now rest in peace Mom knowing that we celebrate your Faith and Life. We send you with all our Love to dwell in the house of the Lord. You will be missed, but for today we will Rejoice!
