Marjorie Joan (Kamholtz) Roberts was born in Spirit Lake, ID along with her twin sister, Maxine, on September 17, 1928 to loving parents Bill & Emmagene (Scribner) Kamholtz & big sister Shirley. She had a wonderful childhood full of love and after living in Mullen, ID for a few years, the family settled in Port Orchard, WA. Marge graduated from South Kitsap H.S. in 1946. She often told colorful stories of the fun she had growing up & how kind and loving her parents were.
As a young woman, she was a competitive bowler & it was a sport she kept up with for most of her adult life. One day in 1952 while Marge was at work, the boss introduced their newest hire. He teasingly said, "Marge, this is Jim, now we can't have a married couple working together at the office". On May 23, 1953, Marge married the love of her life James "Jim" Roberts. They remained married for 49 and 1/2 years until his passing in 2002. Their marriage was full of love and laughter. They played cards each morning and rarely spent time apart. They settled in Olympia and had two beloved daughters Laurie (Brett) DeJong and Linda (Dale) Broyles. They cherished their children and always remained close with them. Marge was blessed with two grandchildren, Billy (Rashel) Mauerman and Sarah (Jake) Kappert. Her grandchildren would lie about being sick so they could go spend the day at her house instead of going to school. In recent years, she was blessed with 3 great-grandchildren. Natalya Mauerman and Scarlett and Henry Kappert. Even her great-grandchildren adored her and often spent time snuggled up in her lap.
Marge spoke with her twin sister and both daughters every day. She also had many close friends throughout her life that she considered family. Her closest neighbors, friends from church, friends from her childhood and working days were all a part of her inner circle. She was one of those people where when they say, "Invite 100 of your closest friends," she could fill the seats! She was a Mother figure to many and a "Grandma" to many others.
Marge was the epitome of kindness, generosity, selflessness and sought to it that no one was ever left out. She was intelligent, funny, patient, thoughtful and one heck of a cook. She was a woman of strong faith and had been a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed traveling and was always up for a game of cards or dominos. She would often refuse to eat at the table at family gatherings so she could hold the newest great-grandbaby instead. She opened her home to many and was pleasant and loving until the very end.
Marge passed from this world on October 6, 2014. Both her daughters and her grandson were there holding her hands. The afternoon sun shone in through the big bay window and a picture of her husband lay on her heart. It was a beautiful evening with a large moon rising up by Mt. Rainier bathed in pink and purple light. It was a glorious day to pass and that was fitting for Marge.
Marge is survived by her best friend and twin sister, Maxine (Don) Winter, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other extended family members and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Shirley (Jim) Reeves and her husband, Jim Roberts.
A service will be held at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
