Martin (Marty) Allan Robbins, 52, Tumwater, Washington, went to be with his Lord Jesus, on Saturday afternoon April 2, 2016 while at home from a heart attack. He was born March 07, 1964 in Centralia, Washington, the son of Martin and Sharon Diane (Pettit) Robbins. He attended Tumwater schools and graduated from Tumwater High School in 1982 where he played football, took pictures for the annual and was manager of the girls’ basketball team. Teachers trusted him and he had access to create mischief in the teacher’s lounge and throughout the school.
Marty was no stranger to hard work and serving others. As a teen he worked for the Youth Conservation Corp building trails at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. While still in high school he began working for the Timberland Regional Library as a page and worked his way into being a library assistant, in charge of films, and for short period the Yelm Library. As a van driver for Intercity Transit he enjoyed talking with the riders and serving the elderly through dial-a-lift. His most recent position was at Providence Chemical Dependency Center where he served those recovering from drug and alcohol issues. Marty touched lives everywhere he went and lived the quote “There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met.”
Marty was a giver of time. friendship and possessions. He gave as a volunteer with the Black Lake Fire Department for many years, he served as a first responder, first aid trainer, Santa Claus and Smokey the Bear. He fondly regarded those he served with as family. He attended Neighborhood Christian Center in Tumwater, where he mowed lawns, made sure there were donuts on hand most every Sunday and did his best to get you to laugh. He often carried his coin trick around with him looking for the next person he could leave scratching their head. If Marty considered you a friend and thought he had something that you would like, it wouldn’t be long before it became yours.
He was a member of the Mustang West Car club and enjoyed going to car shows and driving his car in local parades. He also loved a good set of pipes on his cars and had glass packs installed on his ‘75 maverick, ‘66 mustang and his son Adam’s 66 T-Bird. Next to his love of cars was his passion for his firearms and his second amendment rights. He bought, sold and traded firearms always looking for that next great deal and not holding on to many of them for very long.
Marty enjoyed photography, cooking, and sports; especially if his kids were involved. He enjoyed posting things on facebook just to see who he could get to take the bait and start a conversation. He loved Jesus and defended Him until the end (much to the consternation of those he shared with on facebook).
He leaves his wife of 21 years, Jeanette (Signal) Robbins; daughters: Hilary and Ashley Robbins; son: Adam Hawks; mother S. Diane Robbins; sister Valerie (Harvey); uncle Marvin (Barb) Robbins, lifelong friend Greg Kunkler and countless other friends. He was preceded in death by his father Martin Joseph Robbins.
Marty touched a lot of lives. He had a compassionate heart and had the ability to make everybody feel that they were somebody important. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Celebration of life will be held at Evergreen Christian Community, 1000 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia, WA 98502, Saturday April 23rd at 11 AM.
