

Mary Ruth Schlottmann was born July 26, 1919 in Olympia, WA. Her parents were Clara V. Edgbert, whose family arrived in Washington before statehood, and Henri F. Schlottmann, a German immigrant.
Ruth attended Olympia area schools, graduating from Olympia High School in 1937. She started her working career at Sear's Rexall Drug, then joined her father and two brothers working at the Olympia Oil and Wood Company. She retired from the State of Washington Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DSHS) in 1980. On October 17, 1947 she married Harley H. Layton in Olympia. They were the parents of two daughters. Ruth loved to read, travel, and spend time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her brothers, Franz H. and David F. Schlottmann. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Clara (Lawrence) Jacobson and Christie Vintilo of Olympia ; grandsons, Evan, Jeffrey and Andrew Jacobson all of Olympia; granddaughter, Mary (William) Brouillard and great-grandson, Bruce Brouillard all of Bremerton; and her sister, Sibyl Wendler of Olympia, who took faithful loving care of Ruth during her last years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., at Mills and Mills Funeral Home, 5725 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater, WA 98512.
A reception will follow at the South Union Grange. -
