We are sad to announce that Michael Paul Roy of Lacey, Washington passed away on October 18. Michael “Mike” was born on January 12th 1945 in Tacoma, Washington to his parents Paul Joesph Roy, and Alice Elizabeth Grandboise.
Mike grew up as the youngest child in a family of 8 children and attended Olympia High School. He joined the Army in 1965 where he served as a cook with the 161st infantry and was honorably discharged in 1969. He then went on to serve in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1971 in Santa Ana California.
Mike was married to Esther Jean Bliss in 1967 in Olympia Washington. In 1968, their first son Charles “Chuck” was born. The three of them moved to California soon after where they would have their second son Toney.
In 1974, the family moved back to Olympia Washington where Mike took a maintenance job with the Olympia School District. He worked there for ten years before moving on and then worked as an equipment operator for an Oregon construction company. In 1991, Mike went to work for the Washington State Department of Corrections as a truck driver and warehouse worker in Tacoma and then transferred to Walla Walla corrections facility where he worked in the industries department as a supervisor of inmates. In 1994, Mike transferred back to the west side to be closer to family. He completed his career as a manufacturing shop supervisor with the Department of Corrections in 2008.
Mike’s favorite things to do included spending his time with friends and family, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, wood working and welding.
He truly enjoyed taking his two sons fishing. Black Lake, Sekiu and the Puget Sound were favorite fishing spots for him. Even more than fishing, he loved to hunt the Chelan mountains for mule deer with his brothers and brothers in law. When his sons were old enough to take hunting, he couldn’t wait to take them along to experience what he so richly enjoyed. Dad always hated the last day of hunting camp because that meant he had to leave the mountain and go back to work.
Mike was a member of the Living Church of God for a number of years where he had many friends who he cared for and who cared for him. Thank you to all of you!
An important part of his routine was to spend the last part of each day before going to bed reading the word of God. He was devoted to attending his church and observing the Sabbath. Dad knew the Lord Jesus as his Savior and because of that we can be confident he now is in Heaven.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Roland and Ed Roy.
Mike is survived by siblings: Pauline, Don, Joyce, Eugene (Pee Wee), and Marie (Cookie); sons Charles (Julie daughter in law), and Toney (Joan daughter in law); grandchildren: Alan and Emily Roy, Katrina and Jared Crews, Jack Roy, Shelby and Tyler Culp, James Nolan, Cameron Nolan, Cheyenne and Alex Halbleib; and great grandchildren: Boone & Easton Roy, Matthew & Lane Crews, Silas, Tucker & Elijah Culp, Callie & Rey Halbleib. Also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
