Michael was born on March 25, 1940 to Wayne Theodore and Ila Maxine Siegrist in Culver City, California. The Siegrists moved to Olympia, Washington in 1945 when Michael was 5 years old. They lived in the Leland Hotel in Olympia while looking for a home to purchase. Michael went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company at 19 years of age. He attended the Boeing Drafting School in Seattle for 6 weeks prior to being sent to the Renton plant. He joined the United States Army Security Agency on September 30, 1959. He went in as a draftsman scheduled to go to Germany. Instead they shipped him to Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was learning to track secret codes. After 3 months at Fort Devens, Michael complained about not getting what he signed up for. After much insistence, he was sent to Frankfort, Germany. After a couple months he was sent to Heilbronn, Germany. August 11, 1961 he married Sandra Dian Kincy. When Michael returned to Germany he went to a 4-star general during a GI inspection and told him about his joining the Army to be a draftsman and how it was unfair how the military was avoiding his original request. Three months later the general sent him a note telling him of a position at the Bad Aibling Kaserne in Bad Aibling, Germany, a United States Army Security Agency post. , Michael was promoted to E-4, Specialist 4th class. He spent his last year with his own office and received a 3-day pass every other weekend. His wife spent the last year of his military time traveling with him around Europe while he was stationed at Bad Aibling. Michael was honorably discharged on August 27, 1962.
Michael and Sandra moved back to Olympia.
December 12, 1966 when he got a job as an Engineering Technician III with the Washington State Department of Highways in photogrammetry.
Michael stopped working for the State in 1979. He did Photography full time. He won many awards for his photo's. You can find magnets and postcards from Outdoor Photo all over the state of Washington. His Daughter Heidi will keep the business going in honor of her dad.
Michael died Saturday, September 7th at 5:30 am from a 9 month battle with Liver cancer. He died peacefully at home. He is survived by his significant other Roseann Pallito of 21 years. His children Mike Siegrist Jr. and Heidi Stoller. Grandchildren Natasha Keen, Zachary Stoller and Moriah Stoller. Great grandchildren Harper and Kenzy Keen, Noah and Samuel Stoller. Sibblings Donna Cooper and Stanely Siegrist.
There will be a graveside memorial at Mills and Mills in Tumwater Saturday, September 14th at 11 am. Reception following.
