I had Mr. Mulligan as Washington Junior High baseball coach for 2 years and later for 3 years at Olympia High School during the 1960’s.  I always found Mike to be a coach who cared personally about his players, looking out for their best interests.  

The angels have taken back our wonderful teacher.  He made an impact in so many's lives. I have never forgotten the skills and thinking processes that Mr. Mulligan instilled in me during 4 years of drafting class at Capital High. The times he made us use our brain and gave us the freedom to have fun learning.  Just as priceless are the times he would talk to us students as real human beings with interests outside of his class and helped us learn life's values. We respected him, he was a man of integrity - yes, the silver fox...with 'eyes like an eagle' he used to say.  I'm so sorry for your family's loss.

Mike was an awesome teacher, I am very happy I got to work with him.  I really enjoyed going into his class and seeing the great rapport he had with his students.  The Olympia School District was a better place because of people like Mike Mulligan, he will be missed.

Kathy and I are saddened about the loss of Mike. He was a favorite of ours. Mike was one of my mentors who helped me transition from OHS to CHS. I have always considered him a good friend and a great person. Our thoughts are with you, Lou, and your family.

An honor and a pleasure to have had Mr. Mulligan in my life. He taught me things in the class room and out. His patriotism he shared with me,has been a strong memory in my life. An ornery and witty fellow. Mr Mulligan taught us about good American values and the sense of unity in life. He has left behind many good things and memories.We can only hope to be as fortunate. I truly enjoyed working with Mike @ CHS. We had good times together with the many sports activities held throughout the school year. He had quite the sense of humor, many times flashing his devilish grin. My thoughts and prayers are with Lou and his family.

Mike began his baseball coaching career at the old Washington Jr. High in the spring of 1962. He had not really played baseball and I remember we had to teach him to hit fungoes for infield/outfield practice. What he lacked in knowledge and experience at that time he more than made up with enthusiasm and hard work. I enjoyed Mike's sense of humor and admired his commitment to kids.

Mr. Mulligan was one of my favorite teachers at CHS. I will always remember him for his sense of humor, genuine care and concern for each student.  He truly impacted my life and I am grateful for having known him. My sympathies and condolences to the Mulligan family.

Mr. Mulligan was one of the great teachers who "raised me" at Capital High School.  I'm thankful for his good cheer and encouragement, his warm smile and gentle humor and his committment to CHS and our larger Olympia community.  From engineering and industrial design to coaching and ballroom dancing, he could do it all.  Blessings to the Mulligan family and thanks for sharing such a wonderful man.  Farewell, Silver Fox.

Mr. Mulligan will always be with me.  He is / was my driving inspiration to pursue a career in Architectural Design. Every time I design, it has a touch of him and his teachings in it.  He was my mentor and my friend.

So incredibly sad to hear about the passing of Mr. Mulligan. I took calligraphy from him. He was one of my favorite teachers at Capital! So honored to have known him my high school years! My thoughts and prayers to the Mulligan Family. I am so sorry for your loss!

I have such great childhood memories of the Barner/Mulligan summer fun on the bay. And even as an adult, whenever I see Mike and Lou, I was greeted with the biggest hug!!  My thoughts are with all of you. I remember a pretty wicked sense of humor so take time to share your stories.

Mike and I go back a long ways in the district. I even had him as a basketball coach way back at OHS. One of my fondest memories of his coaching was him always saying "My grandmother could do that better" while giving you that Cheshire cat grin of his. He expected the best from everyone. He'll be missed.

My thoughts are with the Mulligan family. We have lost a wonderful educator and wonderful person. Mike always greeted me with a smile and a hello when I saw him at CHS or in the community. He was a master to watch in his classroom working with our students. Mike taught in a field that literally changed yearly, if not more often. Yet Mike always stayed current and gave his students the best education possible. I think he holds the record for teaching in the Olympia School District. His 51 years in education were a tribute to his commitment to kids and the future.

I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Mr. Mulligan at Capital High School.  He was a wonderful teacher, and I enjoyed all the moments I was able to work with him.  He made me laugh and I always felt appreciated.

Mr Mulligan -- always the gentleman! He'll be missed.

Even though I only knew Mike for about 11 years at Capital High School, I was incredibly impressed with how well he continually not only connected with high school students, but also kept pace with the ever changing technological requirements of his job. It was my pleasure to supervise him in the classroom and learn from him how to be a teacher. Thank you Mike for all you've given to your students over the years.
