He grew up in Akron, Ohio. He had a paper route and took calculus in high school. After that, he joined the Navy and went to Radar Electronics School at the Great Lakes and was all over the Pacific.
After the Navy, he owned a Drapery business in Garden Grove, California “Interiors by Morgan”.
He was a born salesman and loved working with people. In the late 1980’s he came to Washington State and worked at the World of Fabrics.
In 1972, he met the love of his life, Judy Madsack. They married a month and a half after meeting, what a salesman! Not long before that, he became a realtor and found his niche! He loved real estate and worked for Paul Penley, Virgil Adams and Bob Blume among others. He and Dennis Adams were always trying to “Best” each other at telling jokes. Owen made life-long friends.
About 1990, Huntington’s disease began to claim his life. Huntington’s is a genetic ailment, essentially a “Bad Gene”. It starts in the base of the brain. We never heard of it in his family (his mother & her side), but it never skips a generation and there is a 50/50 chance each child will inherit it. His brother, Guy also had it. Owen and Judy had no children.
Over the years, this relentless disease worked in his brain, clogging, changing and taking everything from him, but he always knew and cherished his Judy – his rock. When he was able, he would attended the Stars Program at the Senior Center for the fun activities. They loved him.
Even as more Dementia came, he never forgot his favorite things; Starbucks’s Mocha (his was the Mochaking), selling real estate – even in the neighborhood of his adult family home, the Navy and being married 43 years to Judy.
A special thank you to Lidia & Vasile at Lidia’s Adult Family Home for more than three years of devoted care. We thank Tamara’s Adult Family Home for his first year. We also thank Providence Sound Home Hospice for all their assistance, and our retired family doctor, Mary Bartholomew at Group Health Co-op.
Owen is survived by his wife, Judy and his brother Scott and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers Guy and Dan preceded him.
A life well spent early on and a life being loved and cared for during the 25 years of Huntington’s disease.
Rest in Heaven my Sweetie Pie and be at peace at last.
Donations to the STAR’S Program at the Olympia Senior Center would be wonderful.
Arrangements under the direction of Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Tumwater, WA.
