Philip Murray Peoples
March 23, 1941 – June 7, 2018
Philip M. Peoples, 77, of Olympia, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Thursday, June 7th, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23rd, 1941, in Portland, Oregon to Ralph and Mildred Peoples.
A few years later he moved to Yelm, Washington, graduating from Yelm High School in 1959. He attended Central Washington University where he met his wife. They married in 1965, and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together.
Phil served in the Navy for 27 years as a flight officer and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired as a captain in the USNR and was proud of serving his beloved country. He was also an active member of the Yelm Masonic Lodge.
A true entrepreneur, Phil owned and managed several mobile home parks in California. In 1983 he moved his family to Olympia, Washington to be closer to his mother. He purchased his first Baskin-Robbins store in 1990 and within a few years owned 5 stores from Tacoma to Centralia.
Phil was a mischievous fellow with a zest for life; he loved to laugh and tell jokes. He was a social person who lived life to the fullest and enjoyed playing tennis, singing karaoke, playing fantasy football, touring the country by RV, playing card games, going on overseas adventures, hot tubbing, gardening, and tinkering around in his “barn”. A kind and generous man, he was a life-long Christian, a loving husband, and father.
He will be missed infinitely by his wife, three children, three grandchildren, two sisters, a brother, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Phil and I arrived in Pensacola, Fl. on the same day in 1964 to begin U. S. Naval Flight School. We went through training together and were both assigned to VAW-11 in San Diego, California. We were room mates in a 8 man junior officer bunk room on The USS Coral Sea during 1966-67. Later, we were room mates in a two man stateroom on the USS Ranger during 1967-68. We kept in touch over the years. I will miss my ole friend and shipmate.
