

Tom Vatne passed away on July 22, 2025, surrounded by his family, and lots of love. Raymond Tom Vatne, Jr. was born in Olympia, WA. On April 23, 1944 to Ray & June Vatne. He lived a very full & happy life until his passing at age 81.
One of four children, Tom had a busy and happy childhood fishing, bike riding, and working on the family farm. He had several pets that he loved, including a white duck named Big Boy, and even pet skunks!!
Tom worked hard on a huge family chicken farm in Napavine. He also helped at his parent's gas station/store in Napavine. While going to high school in Napavine, he helped his football team win a state championship as a fullback.
When his family moved back to Olympia, he attended N. Thurston High School and graduated in 1962. During the summers, he stayed busy delivering ice cream on a scooter, and also working at his uncle's store. When he graduated, he joined the Navy.
After the Navy, Tom worked as a Groundskeeper for WA. State Campus Grounds. he followed this job with a position at Yenneys, where he was able to foster his love of music.
In 1966, Tom married JoAnn "Cookie" Schacht and they had 2 sons. Daniel Anthony and Edward Raymond. He liked his "toys" and a few favorites were his 1962 Chevy Impala, as well as an Ultra Lite.
Tom married Emtisal Farag in 1971, and helped raise Billy, Violette, Mervet, Dale and Judy. At this time he ventured into the family owned business, started by his father. Em and Tom also ventured into the rental business. They had many adventures together traveling to the Middle East. After many years together, Em left to be with Jesus.
Later, Tom married Terri in 2011, and now his family included 2 daughters, Lisa and Jennifer. They enjoyed kayaking and walks together.
Tom's legacy will be his generosity. He shared his love for Jesus at every opportunity. He was very humble and flew under the radar when God's hand moved through him. He loved his church, and spent over 50 years at Transformation Life Center where he supported his brothers and sisters in Christ. His musical talents were enjoyed at church as well. He will be greatly missed by his family & Friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Terri, his sister, Reji Scott, children Dan Vatne (Sandy), Ed Vatne (Angie), Billy Farag, Violette Roakes (Dick), Mervett Meharry (Marlin), Dale Farag, Judy Koelsch (Aaron), Jennifer Jones (Jeremy), and Lisa Sills (Raymond), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & June Vatne, brother Toby Vatne, and sister Sharon Carroll.
