At an early age he moved with his family to the Long Beach Peninsula. Where he attend Long Beach Elementary and was a graduate of Ilwaco High School, Class of 1966.
Following high school, he received his Associates Degree at Clatsop College in the field of Forestry.
After college, he worked for Weyerhaeuser for 5 years. He then formed his own company, Carter’s Forestland Services in partner with his brother Larry.
He completed his working career at Rayonier Timber Company, retiring in 2007.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA. While he enjoyed camping in his early adulthood along with fishing,
his real passion was game hunting and reloading ammunition for himself and others.
The pinnacle of his hunting career was a safari to Zimbabwe in 2008.
He and his wife Fran enjoyed road trips visiting our national parks, and spent time each year on the Island of Kauai.
Dick married Fran Litschke june 9, 1967. They had a son Rich Carter in 1968. His granddaughter, Vienna was the highlight of his life.
Dick loved deeply and without conditions.
As per his wishes, no gathering of family and friends is planned.
