Richard Francis Madden

He had rallied may times in the last 5 years from many medical challenges, but unfortunately it was not to be this time and he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior after a short illness.

Chief, as he was often called, served 30 years in the USAF from 1953 to 1983 and retired as a CMsgt from McChord AFB, WA. He was stationed at 13 different bases during his service, including Taklhi, Thailand; Lakenheath RAF., Alconbury RAF and Upper Heyford, RAF in England. He received many awards and honors during his service, including at least two Meritorious service medals.

He then went on to use his Masters in Counseling to work as a social worker for Child Protective Services in WA for 18 years, before retiring in 2003.

Chief was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Adelaide (Smith) Madden; brother, Thomas Madden Jr (Ruth), sister Jane (John) Sheehan, his first wife, Pamela (Evans) of 38 years (m.1957-1996) and second wife, Marlene of 23 years (m. 1997-2020); daughter Elizabeth (Bruce) Antonowicz and grandson Adam Ballejos.

He is survived by his sons, David R. (Jo) Madden, Christopher J. (Jerrelyn) Madden, Anthony T. (Linda) Madden, and stepson, Matthew Reaves; Daughter Julia A. (Jerry) Blessing, stepdaughters Christine “Chris" (Kelly) Melton, and Cheryl “Cheri” Sesnon; his beloved 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

Chief was a big man, not only in stature but more so in his influence and generosity to his family and those in need.

His larger than life presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses on the 11th floor at St Peter’s Hospital, who demonstrated warmth, kindness, and comfort to both Chief and his family, in his final hours.

Private services will be held for family and friends at Calvary Cemetery. Richard supported many charities throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to any faith based charity of your choice.
