Bob passed November 17, 2016 after a long good bye with Alzheimer’s. Bob was born October 10, 1929 at home in Mount Angel, Oregon to Joseph and Mary (Eberle) Hauth to a large family of ten children. Surviving siblings are Bernadette, Paul and Stella. Siblings Delores, Clem, Joe, Rita, Virginia and Mary Magdaline (stillborn) preceded him.
Graduated Mount Angel Prep, Gonzaga University and Gonzaga Law School in 1956. He worked various jobs to put himself through school including a pulp mill.
Wed to Carole Mary Semler July 20, 1957 who preceded him in death in 2006 from cancer. They enjoyed living on Cooper Point and looking over the bay at Mt. Rainier. After Carole’s death, Bob moved to Panorama Chinook Apartments and enjoyed playing pinochle and other actives for several years. Many thanks to the Anthony Care crew for helping him be independent as long as possible.
Three children survive him. Michelle (Keith Underwood), Steve (Kirsten Scott), Rebecca (Nick Pilutik). His grandchildren were a source of joy and much laughter. Kevin, Justin, Stephanie, Mitchell, Zach, Sean, Danielle and Tori. He was a great grandfather to Madison and Connor. Son Michael died in 2007.
Bob was a man of integrity and enjoyed the practice of Law. He was a Bar Association member for fifty years and retired and returned to work several times. His attorney experiences included clerking for the Supreme Court, Assistant Attorney General, Municipal Research Center, Owens Davies Mackie, and private practice with emphasis on Municipal Law. He enjoyed people and loved to organize professional conferences and fishing trips to Alaska and Kamloops.
He loved to travel and made two trips to Europe, two trips to Japan, a trip with Steve to Australia and traveled by rail across Canada in his later years.
He kids remember him as a loving but somewhat absent minded professor who loved to tell “shaggy dog” stories and often caused his kids to groan. Carole had the handy man skills and Bob was not allowed to try to hang a picture. It was not in his nature. He was however a kind soul and one that wanted everyone to be ok and to laugh.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and Saint Michael Parish. He spent many years on the Sacred Heart Parish and Saint Placid Priory boards.
Many thanks to the caring staff, especially “T and her Posse”, at Panorama Convalescent Center where he spent nearly three years as part of their family. His memory faded but he continued to try to make people smile. B.o.b. will be missed.
Rosary and memorial service will be Monday November 28 at St Michael Parish, Eastside Street. Rosary will begin at 11:15 followed by mass of Christian burial at noon.
