

Robert Joseph Vaughn Robert Joseph Vaughn, resident of Olympia, died Wednesday, April 18th, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on the cold and foggy morning of September 11, 1937, in Consort, Alberta, Canada, Robert was the second youngest of four children to Robert W. and Mabel Vaughn. He is survived by his siblings, Tom, Elaine and Teresa. Robert had a variety of experiences in his long and happy life, dropping out of seminary and joining the Marine Corps at age 18, retreading tires for Goodyear, and working for the Old National Bank in Spokane, where he met his soul mate and partner for life, Barbara Irby.Robert and Barbara married in 1963, eventually moving from Spokane to Olympia where they lived together for 39 years. They raised five children: Christopher Matthew, Douglas Michael, Gregory Alexander, Jeffrey Mark and Samantha Elizabeth, and gained five additional children through marriage: Jennifer, Stephanie, Paola, Ellie and Joshua. Robert had a long and distinguished career with the State of Washington, working in a number of computer programming positions, however the most important role of his life was that of husband and father. He liked planning long family road trips, his favorite being to Lagoon. Robert was often described as having the sway of John Wayne, the glare of Clint Eastwood and the long slender fingers of a gunfighter. Robert and Barbara have 10 grandchildren: Zachary, Adriana, Teague, Liam and Bethany Vaughn, Rachel and Annika Vaughn, Gabriella and Claudio Vaughn, and Max Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Mabel, and granddaughter Rachel Vaughn. Robert will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The immediate family will be celebrating his life in a private ceremony.
