Rolf F. Wick was born September 2, 1918 in Tacoma, WA. He was born to John & Fernanda Wick. Mr. Wick attended Lincoln High School and graduated, then heading off to WWII, returning to Washington State to become a City of Tacoma employee driving bus and then operating a street sweeper. While driving bus, Rolf met his first wife, Pearl Boyd. They married in 1946. Rolf & Pearl had two children during their marriage; Michael & Barbara. They divorced in 1960. Mr. Wick went on to meet his second wife, Mary Brown. They married in 1963. With that marriage came 2 step-children; Steven & Sharon. Rolf & Mary created a family that consists of 7 grandchildren, Rochelle (Rob), Brent, Christy, Christopher (Aime), Brian (Stephanie), Jason (Natasha), and Valerie (Mark); 16 great-grandchildren, Zachery, Nikolas, Joshua, Austin, Connor, Kaitlyn, Jonathon, William, Logan, Brayden, Gabe, Blake, Cooper, Glen, Mark Jr., and Alexis.
Grandpa loved many things in life, but his love of boats and being on the water, was his first. You would catch him out fishing, taking us grandkids for a stroll on the water, or hitting the beach for some clam/oyster digging. Grandpa was a funny man. He will always be known for his one-liners and “grandpa-isms”. In that mans presence, there was never a dull minute and he always had to have the last word. Grandpa became a regular with me (Christy), at a little restaurant off of I-5, called Norma’s. Over the years he was given a table with his name of it and he accepted all staff as part of his family. Mr. Wick left us March 31, 2014, peacefully at home with family by his side and watching the Mariners play ball.
Those whom have had the pleasure of knowing my grandfather, know that the earth is one less of the great men to walk it. He will be loved and missed by many; gone but NEVER forgotten. Thank you Grandpa, for being my best friend, I love you Ol’ Man!
Arrangements under the direction of Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Tumwater, WA.
