Rose was born April 14, 1929 in Hoquiam, Washington to Mary and John Dujmov both
from Croatia, Yugoslavia. She was the youngest of five siblings, Evelyn, Olga, Robert
and John.
When Rose was 12 she began working as a “soda jerk” at the Bower Pharmacy Soda
Fountain to help support her family. She continued working there until her 1947
graduation from Hoquiam High School. Rose was proud to have been a majorette in her
high school marching band and never forgot how to twirl, throw and catch a baton.
Following graduation, Rose worked at the State Employment Security Office in
Aberdeen where she met her future husband, Gerald “Jerry” McCauley.
The couple were married on June 7, 1952 at the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in
Hoquiam. Rose continued working in Aberdeen until her first child, Rosemary, was born
in 1960.
Jerry went into commercial banking with The National Bank of Commerce in Aberdeen.
In 1962 the family moved to Olympia following his promotion to the local branch.
The family grew to four with the addition of their second daughter, Marie, in 1964. They
built their home in the Olympia Canterbury neighborhood where Rose lived until 2015.
She was a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church and served in a women’s
guild and altar society. Rose went back to work in 1972 as a Customer Service Representative at Puget Power where she worked for 20 years until retirement.
Rose maintained her many interests including friends, baking, gardening, walking,
exercising at the YMCA, participating in PEO and Church organizations and taking care
of her family including her father in law, George McCauley, and her brother, Robert
Dujmov. She was delighted to become Grandma Rose when daughter Marie and her
husband, Steven Weed, had their daughters Jordan and Natalie. She took great joy in
their lives.
In her final years she lived in a Bellevue adult family home cared for by the Belindean
family. Rose’s family will remain ever grateful for their professional and loving care and
support.
Rose is survived by her daughters, Rosemary and Marie McCauley; her
granddaughters, Jordan and Natalie Weed; and her sons in law, Andrew Hall and
Steven Weed. Her husband, Jerry, passed away in 1988. Her parents and siblings all
predeceased her.
