Ruth was born January 25, 1926 in Lehi, Utah to Tarvel and Millie Laursen. She was the last surviving sibling of their six children: Virginia, Everett, Tom, Norma, and Dorothy.
She grew up in American Fork, Utah, graduating from American Fork H.S. in 1944. One of her first jobs was at Hill Air Force Base painting airplanes for the military in World War II.
Ruth married Lewis Willard Peterson in 1949 and they moved to Yelm in 1950. They had four children together and enjoyed their home life of caring for children, land and animals on their small farm.
Ruth earned her LPN degree from Clover Park Technical School while working for Summer Shores Estates and then Roo Lan Gardens nursing homes. Countless patients and co-workers had the privilege of receiving her outstanding care and witnessing her love and dedication to her work.
Ruth was known for her sense of humor and her delicious cooking and baking. Particular favorites were her dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and her famous strawberry pie. Ruth was all about family. You were always welcome anytime and would not leave without a meal, snack or “cookie for the road” when visiting.
She is survived by her four children: Linda Macdougall (Steve), Gary Peterson (Joan), Karen Lincoln (Ed) and Carl Peterson; eight grandchildren: Richard, Eric, Chad, Cheri, Kristin, Brian, Cara and Anthony; and 15 great-grandchildren: Megan, Kyle, Bradly, Jake, Abbie, Carly, Peter, Kendyl, Karli, Holly, Taylor, Caitlyn, Ben, Hunter, and Hayden.
