Veronica was born in San Francisco on March 15, 1940. Being of Irish descent, not being born on St Patrick’s Day was always a sore point with her. Veronica lived a very full life and so often put the needs of others first.
A self-taught, successful business woman, she won her first business award at the early age of 16 at Galileo High School. This award took her to New York City then to Washington DC where she met Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover. Veronica spent most of her career in the transportation industry and later at Del Monte where she made many great friends that she spoke of fondly and often. She loved to cook, read and make quilts for her great grandchildren, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Roddy and Lorna Dort and step-father Howard Dort. Veronica is survived by daughters Victoria Martinez, Patrice Collingwood and Jennifer Cerkueira, and son David Raney (Michelle); six grandchildren James Ayers, John Ayers, Matt Raney (Kaleena), Jonathan Raney (Danielle), Stephen Raney and Claire Collingwood, and four Great Grandchildren Olivia Sinclaire, Peyton Raney, Madison Raney, and Mateo Ayers who affectionately call her “GG”. Mom/Veronica/Anne, you will be greatly missed.
A memorial and celebration of life has been held in Seattle. A private memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the Bay Area in January.
