

Billy grew up working on the family farm in Lacey Washington and attended Saint Martin’s High School. He joined the US Navy in 1949 and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. While in the Navy Billy worked as an Airman, Boatswain’s Mate and Signalman. He last served on the U.S.S. Buckley DD-808 and made 4 tours to Vietnam. Billy earned good conduct awards all 20 years he was in the Navy. After his military career he worked as a Police Officer for the Department of Defense at the San Diego Naval Base until his retirement in 1982.
Billy married the love of his life Pearl Elizabeth Russ after a short courtship in December 1950. They were married 52 years until her passing in May 2003.
Billy and Pearl loved and raised many dogs, enjoyed gardening, bowling and traveling in their motor home. Billy was also an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Seahawks, Mariners, and Seattle Storm teams play.
Billy is survived by a large family who loved him very much. His family includes 4 brothers John (Aileen), Jim (Sue), Tom (Sue), David (Betty) and 4 sisters Helen, Evelyn, Janice (Pete), and Carol (Gary), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Pearl, sister Pat, and brothers in law Jim, Bill, and Eric.
Services will be held Saturday June 3rd at Mills and Mills Funeral Home located on Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater WA. The chapel service will begin at 1pm, graveside service with military honors at 2pm, followed by a reception at the funeral home. Billy’s family would like to invite all who knew him to attend and help us celebrate his life.
