

William (Bill) was the second oldest of four children born to Beulah Mobray & William R. Cahill, Sr. Born April 8, 1922 in Aberdeen he grew up in the Oakville area, where he attended school. He played basketball and met the love of his life when he was in the eighth grade, Norma M. McMeekin. He introduced himself to Norma by tripping her on the playground and then helped her up wile asking her out. Norma really did fall for Bill and they were married on November 11, 1942 in Olympia. They were married for 70 years.
Bill proudly served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific on board the USS North Carolina. He was in Tokyo Bay during the peace signing ceremony. After the war, Bill and Norma worked in the Oakville and Elma area in general mercantile stores and traveled around small towns running movie projectors at local cinemas. Later on, Bill found work on Kodiak Island where he drove a gravel dump truck 12 hours a day 7 days a week. In 1952, the family bought a small farm in Olympia where they have lived ever since.
Bill enjoyed working at the Olympia Brewery and retired after 35 years.
He & Norma square danced for decades, hunted and fished together and enjoyed taking drives in the Oakville hills. He was a member of the local old car club and drove his 1955 Chevy in the Lakefair and Oakville 4th of July parades for many years. He loved to play golf with the gang at Capitol City and did so several times a week even at the age of 90. Bill shot his age at 77, one of his proudest days as a golfer.
Bill is survived by his wife Norma, sons Jim and David and daughters in law Wanda, Susan and MaryJo, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim and Don, sister Arliss and son William. Bill lived a long full life and will be missed by those who loved him and enjoyed his company.
A graveside service will be held Monday October 29th at 1:00 p.m. at Mills & Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater.
