William (Bill) Duane Lanning, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend, peacefully passed away in his home in Tumwater, Washington on April 28, 2025, aged 85. Born in Michigan in June 1939, Bill lived a life defined by love—for his family, for his community, and for the simple joys that made life rich.
His greatest passion, however, was his beloved wife Esther, who preceded him in death just three years ago. Together, they were Managers of the Tumwater Senior Mobile Home Park for 15 years and remained residents of the park a further ten years following their retirement.
They enjoyed travelling – winters in Palm Desert and long weekends at the Mayflower in Seattle - however, what brought them the utmost joy was sharing their love of good food, good wine and conversation with friends and family on their infamous patio that they had created to resemble a‘French Café.’ It was their special place where stories were swapped, and memories made.
Two siblings – Doris Breece and Barbara Krapohl - preceded Bill In death and he will be deeply missed by his surviving two siblings - Bruce and Skip Lanning; his four children - Jeff, Sheri, Greg, and Randy; and three stepchildren - Dennis, Susan, and Glenda, as well as many nieces, nephews and grandchildren who carry his spirit, his sense of humor, and his enduring love of family.
