As someone who is naturally cautious and has had some bad experiences with neighbors it was such a blessing to move next door and know almost imediatly I had a neighbor I could wave and smile at. Then I watched you befriend my husband. He has a terrible time finding people he can talk to about stuff that is serious, philosophical, or intellectual. You could talk about it all. You have been nothing but a blessing to our family in the short time we had with you. I wish it could have been more. Thank you for the legacy of love you left on this world.

William Valentine: Our wonderful, sweet neighbor. We shared some great dinners (ribs from your bar-b-q, fresh blackberries we'd picked), great (and heavy) conversations, and even watched the eclipse together last year. You was always looking out for us.

I had to tell someone of your passing today. It did prompt me to remember, though. The last time I visited I asked for a book recommendation, and you gave me this: "The Sot-Weed Factor" by John Barth.

Not sure it's in print, but I found a used copy on Amazon: it's sitting in front of me now. One of those lesser-known American classics. You told me it was a deep satire on the founding of our country. I was looking forward to digging in, but I'm not sure I'm ready yet.

You also requested a song, I played it on my phone and you closed your eyes, bobbed your head and hummed to the music, even sang a couple of the most potent parts. Wedding Bell Blues, by Marilyn McCoo

We weren't super close, but the closest I've ever been with a neighbor. You are a great friend, and I miss you.

Bill we were classmates many years ago and remained friends across social media all these years. You will be missed by many. Prayers for Peace.

Woo was a man who believed in me during my darkest times when I didn't believe in myself. We created many good memories things that I will never forget. He impacted my life so much that I got a tattoo that was symbolic of his name, a 100 dollar (Bill) going through a purple heart (Valentine). I can hear him say that his time was up because he completed his mission here on Earth. 

William Valentine was my Uncle. He was truly an amazing man. He will truly be missed. I love you Uncle.
