Americo Matos Pedroso, age 84, of Half Moon Bay, California, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born in Norte Grande, São Jorge, Açores, to Julia Augusta Matos and João Pedroso das Neves, Americo carried with him a deep connection to his heritage and faith throughout his life.
A devout Catholic, Americo prayed the rosary daily and was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church in Half Moon Bay.
Americo was also a proud member of the I.D.E.S. Society (PCC) of Half Moon Bay, where he remained committed to preserving Portuguese culture and supporting his community.
He is survived by his son, David Pedroso (Amanda); his grandsons, Ethan Pedroso and A.J. Pedroso; his sister Maria Neves; and his brothers Jorge Neves and João M. Pedroso. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria L. Pedroso; his parents, João Pedroso das Neves and Julia Augusta Matos.
Americo will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his deep devotion to God and family, and his willingness to lend a helping hand.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, 400 Church Street, Half Moon Bay. A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM at the same location. Committal services will take place at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Cemetery, 975 Miramontes Street, Half Moon Bay.
Serving as pallbearers are Francisco Belo, John Costa, Henrique Navalhas, Dominic Cresci, Johnny Furtado, Ethan Pedroso and Andrew Pedroso.
Americo’s life was a testament to faith, compassion, and community. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Americo Matos Pedroso, de 84 anos, residente em Half Moon Bay, Califórnia, faleceu pacificamente na quarta-feira, dia 16 de julho de 2025. Natural de Norte Grande, ilha de São Jorge, Açores, filho de Julia Augusta Matos e João Pedroso das Neves.
O Sr. Pedroso era um Católico devoto, rezava o terço todos os dias e era paroquiano da Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora do Pilar em Half Moon Bay, era também da Sociedade I.D.E.S. (PCC) de Half Moon Bay.
Deixa de luto o seu filho, David Pedroso (e esposa Amanda); os seus netos, Ethan Pedroso e A.J. Pedroso; a sua irmã, Maria Neves; e os seus irmãos, Jorge Neves e João M. Pedroso. Foi precedido na morte pela sua esposa, Maria L. Pedroso, e pelos seus pais, João Pedroso das Neves e Julia Augusta Matos.
O velorio será realizada na sexta-feira, dia 25 de julho de 2025, das 9h30 às 10h30 da manhã, na Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, situada na 400 Church Street, Half Moon Bay. Seguir-se-á a recitação do terço e a Missa de Corpo Presente às 10h30 no mesmo local.
O Sr. Pedroso será sepultado no Cemitério Católico de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, na 975 Miramontes Street, Half Moon Bay.
