Anne Lorraine Wood, a remarkable woman of faith and boundless talent, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 100. Born in Kenmore, New York, to Jennie and Constantine Wallery, Loraine lived a life filled with love, adventure, and creativity.
Lorraine was a devout Christian, finding solace and strength in her faith. She shared a deep and loving relationship with her husband, Wallace E. Wood. They met at a roller skating rink when they were 17, married at the age of 24 and went on to celebrate 64 wonderful years together. Their marriage was built on mutual respect and affection. Together, they embarked on many exciting adventures, traveling through Europe and extensively throughout the United States as members of an Airstream club. Their travels took them to numerous national parks, creating lasting memories.
Lorraine graduated from Carl Schultz High School in Chicago in 1942, where she studied commercial business courses. Her career spanned nearly two decades, beginning with Illinois Bell and Telephone Company and later including roles with the Chicago, Burlington Railroad Company, where she tracked railroad cars and shipments, and United Airlines, where she managed airfreight shipments and insurance claims. Her most cherished role was with American Greeting Corp, where she designed greeting card displays, a job she found both creative and fulfilling. Throughout her career, Lorraine demonstrated dedication and versatility in each of her roles, leaving a lasting impact in the business world.
Lorraine's creative spirit shone brightly throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress, crafting exquisite clothing, hats, and coats with her own hands. Her artistic talents extended to painting, with a particular fondness for watercolors and oils. She also possessed a remarkable ability to create stunning jewelry.
Lorraine was a kind and worldly woman, cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Lorraine is survived by her niece Susan Carr (Bradley), her nephew Jeffrey Brown (Melinda), her niece Jill Wapotish; her great niece Kendal Rathe (Bradford), her great nephew Brian Wapotish, her great great-nephews; Harrison Rathe, George Rathe, and Arthur Rathe.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wally E. Wood; her parents, Constantine and Jennie Wallery; her sisters Gladys Wallery, Evelyn Schmidt (who introduced Lorraine to her future husband while roller skating), and Dorothy Brown.
A visitation for Lorraine will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service 286 West Main Street, Turlock, California 95380.
A graveside service for Lorraine will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at San Joaquín Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella, California 95322.
