David passed away peacefully at home with his family at age 65. David was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
He & his family moved to California the summer of 1968. He graduated from Thomas Downey High School in 1970. He attended MJC & became an explorer before becoming a reserve deputy for Stanislaus County Sheriff Department.
On June 1, 1974 he became a full time deputy where he proudly served for 30 years. During his 30 year service his assignments included the jail, patrol, detectives, & ended his career as a bailiff in Superior Court. One of David’s favorite assignments was his 7 years as a SWAT team member.
David retired in July of 2002 to proudly babysit his grandchildren, which he enjoyed immensely.
David was a devoted Catholic who attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was coordinator of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.
David is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years Monica. His sons, Clint (Melissa) Wood, and Butch (Jennifer) Wood, whom he was so very proud of. David is also survived by his greatest joy, his grandchildren: Ainsley, Gillian & Caden Wood, & Ethan & Meghan Wood. His brother Joseph (Susana) Wood & his sister Cathy Wood. His mother-in-law, Nellie Fernandes of Modesto, & many brothers & sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, & nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Frederick & Arlene Wood, father-in-law Joe Fernandes, & brother-in-law Albert “Butch” Silva.
David will be greatly missed by family, friends & all those whose lives he touched. He will be forever remembered with love.
