JUNE 29, 1939 – OCTOBER 30, 2011
Born in 1939 with eight teeth outside San Salvador, El Salvador everyone knew Eva Emily Duarte was unique. Born the middle child of Salvador & Herlinda Duarte, she was the glue that brought and kept her family together. In 1955 she immigrated to the United States with her sister Gilma. The resided in Saratoga, California with their Aunt, Mama Eva, before settling in San Francisco.
In 1956 she married Jean P. Barbé, and had four children. John P. Barbé, of Hayward, CA; Linda M. Molestina, of San Francisco, CA; Eugene F. Barbé of Loomis, CA and Edmond L. Barbé, of Denver, CO. They divorced in 1963
Eva married Robert R. Hernandez in 1965 and had one daughter, Andria E. Hernandez of Turlock, CA. Together they all lived in San Francisco as one big happy family. They were the original “Waltons.” In 1979 they packed up their three youngest children and moved out to Turlock, California. Turlock remained her home until her death.
Eva spent most of her time as a domestic Goddess. Raising her children with love and laughter. She spent some time working outside the home as a model, retail clerk and as one of the first bilingual teaching assistants at St. Peter’s Elementary in San Francisco. Eva had a love for laughter, learning, and nature. She never met a rock she didn’t love! Beauty was everywhere in her eyes. Her passions were her family, her dogs and her politics! In 2007 after fifty years in the U.S. she decided it was time to make it official and became a U.S. Citizen. Primarily so she could vote for Hillary for President!
Eva loved to spend time in her garden of flowers and succulents. This is where she got her most joy and peace in her later days. She could grow just about anything! Eva loved to cook and What a Cook she was! She got the most pleasure from creating dishes that people love to eat. Eva had an incredible appetite for such a petite lady. Food was always a pleasure and a joy.
Eva is survived also by her siblings, Gilma Diaz, of San Francisco; Santiago Duarte of Pittsburgh, Ca; Mario Duarte of Concord, Ca; Oscar Duarte of Concord, California. Her brother, Salvador Duarte preceded her in death. Eva has eight Grandchildren, one Great Granddaughter and many Nieces and Nephews who will miss her dearly.
