João Gabriel Carvalho

Born on July 4, 1951, in Guadalupe, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, João carried with him the values of his island home throughout his life, faith, humility, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to his family. Nearly five decades ago, he and his beloved wife, Liduína Emília Carvalho, came to the United States in search of a better life and greater opportunities for their family. Through determination, sacrifice, and love, they built a life together that reflected those dreams. João and Liduína shared 48 wonderful years of marriage, creating a home filled with love, faith, and family.

João spent many years working in the dairy industry, milking cows while tirelessly providing for and raising his family. He never hesitated to work hard if it meant giving his children every opportunity to succeed. His greatest accomplishment was not measured by his work but by the family he loved so deeply.

He had a deep love for fishing and found great happiness whenever he could lend a helping hand to someone in need. A devoted fan of Monterey, João cherished every opportunity to visit the coast, enjoying the peacefulness of the beach and the beauty of the ocean. His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July, made even more special because it was also his birthday, a day he always looked forward to celebrating with those he loved.

João was known for his kind heart, warm smile, and infectious laughter that could brighten any room. Even during his illness, when he was at his sickest and not feeling his best, he continued to greet others with that same smile and unmistakable sense of humor. He could certainly have his cranky days, but they never lasted long, and before long he would have everyone laughing again.

His Catholic faith quietly guided the way he lived his life. João believed in helping others, supporting those around him, and putting his family first. He led by example, showing kindness, compassion, humility, and unconditional love through his actions rather than his words.

Nothing brought João greater joy than being a father and grandfather. His grandsons were the light of his life and his greatest pride. He treasured every moment spent with them and found endless happiness in watching them grow. To his family, João was not only an amazing father and grandfather but also a constant source of strength, encouragement, and unconditional love.

João is survived by his wife, Liduína Emília Carvalho; his sons, Marco Carvalho and João Carvalho Jr.; his daughter, Dominique Martinez; his brother, Floriberto Carvalho and his wife, Maria Edite; his sister, Ana Cunha; and grandsons, João Gabriel Carvalho III and Gabriel Alvarino Carvalho. He was preceded in death by his father, João da Cunha Carvalho, and his mother, Maria da Glória Carvalho.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, California 95380. Recitation of the Rosary will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

João's legacy is one of unwavering love, quiet faith, and selfless devotion to his family. His life was a testament to the values he cherished most, hard work, compassion, generosity, and faith in God.

João Gabriel Carvalho faleceu em paz, rodeado pela família, na sua casa em Livingston, Califórnia, no dia 13 de julho de 2026, aos 75 anos.

Nasceu no dia 4 de julho de 1951, na freguesia de Guadalupe, Ilha Graciosa, Açores, Portugal. Ao longo da vida, levou sempre consigo os valores da sua terra: fé, humildade, trabalho e amor pela família.

Há quase cinquenta anos, O Sr. Carvalho e a sua esposa, Liduína Emília Carvalho, emigraram para os Estados Unidos com o objetivo de dar uma vida melhor à família. Com muito esforço e dedicação, conseguiram construir uma vida feliz e partilharam 48 anos de casamento, sempre unidos pelo amor e pela fé.

Durante muitos anos, trabalhou na indústria leiteira, ordenhando vacas e trabalhando sem descanso para sustentar a família. Nunca fugiu ao trabalho e teve sempre como prioridade o bem-estar dos filhos. A sua maior alegria foi sempre a família, da qual muito se orgulhava.

O Sr. Carvalho gostava muito de pescar e tinha prazer em ajudar quem precisava. Gostava especialmente de Monterey, onde apreciava a praia e o mar. O seu dia favorito era o 4 de julho, não só por ser feriado, mas também por ser o seu aniversário, que gostava de celebrar com a família.

Era um homem bondoso, com um sorriso fácil e uma alegria que contagiava todos à sua volta. Mesmo nos momentos de doença e dificuldade, manteve sempre o bom humor e a capacidade de fazer os outros sorrir. Também tinha os seus momentos mais teimosos, mas depressa voltava a brincar e a animar a família.

A sua fé católica esteve sempre presente na sua vida. Acreditava em ajudar os outros, apoiar a família e viver com humildade e generosidade. Mostrava o seu amor através das suas ações e do cuidado que tinha com todos.

Ser pai e avô foi uma das maiores alegrias da sua vida. Os netos eram o seu maior orgulho, e ele acompanhava com carinho cada momento das suas vidas. Para a família, João foi um marido dedicado, um pai exemplar e um avô muito querido, cuja memória será sempre guardada com amor e saudade.

O Sr. Carvalho deixa de luto, a sua esposa, casados durante 48 anos, Liduína Emília Carvalho; os seus filhos, Marco Carvalho e João Carvalho Jr.; a sua filha, Dominique Martinez; o irmão, Floriberto Carvalho, e a esposa, Maria Edite; a sua irmã, Ana Cunha; e os seus netos, João Gabriel Carvalho III e Gabriel Alvarino Carvalho.

Foi precedido na morte pelo o seu pai, João da Cunha Carvalho, e pela a sua mãe, Maria da Glória Carvalho.

O velório será na sexta-feira, dia 24 de julho de 2026, das 3h às 6:30h de tarde, na capela da Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, Califórnia 95380. A Recitação do Terço será às 6:00h, na mesma capela.

O Sr. Carvalho deixa uma vida marcada por amor, fé, trabalho e dedicação à família. Que a sua alma descanse em paz.
