João Olegário Sousa

Born on March 6, 1948, in Norte Grande, São Jorge, Azores, João carried the values of his island home with him throughout his life, faith, humility, hard work, and an unwavering love for family. Those values shaped the man he became and the legacy he leaves behind.

For 51 years, João shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife, Maria Fátima Sousa. Together they built a home where love, laughter, and family always came first.

João was a faithful member of Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church in Gustine and the P.F.S.A. His faith guided the way he lived each day, and he was known for his quiet strength, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family.

João dedicated more than 20 years of hard work to George Nunes Dairy, where his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet dedication earned the respect of those who knew him. He took great pride in providing for his family, a commitment that reflected the values he carried throughout his life.

He found joy in life's simple blessings. He loved tending to his potato garden, where every season brought the satisfaction of watching something grow through patience and care. He also enjoyed the faithful companionship of his beloved cat, Oreo, and treasured every moment spent with his family. Whether sharing a meal, telling stories, or simply enjoying one another's company, those moments brought him the greatest happiness.

João is survived by his wife, Maria Fátima Sousa of Gustine, California; his son, Helio Sousa (Adela), of Turlock, California; his sister, Maria Filomena de Sousa of São Jorge, Azores; his niece and nephew, Sandra Silva and Amílcar Silva; his grandson, Johnny Sousa and his wife, Mireya; and his great-grandsons, Jaxon Sousa and Landon Sousa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, João Teixeira and Maria Teixeira; and his brother, Eduardo Teixeira Sousa.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church, 370 Linden Ave., Gustine, CA 95322. The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM, immediately followed by the Funeral Mass.

João will be laid to rest at Hills Ferry Cemetery District, 1331 West Stuhr Rd., Newman, CA 95360.

O Sr. João Olegário Sousa, de 78 anos de idade, faleceu no sábado, dia 28 de junho de 2026, na sua residência em Gustine, Califórnia, onde viveu durante os últimos 40 anos.

Natural de Norte Grande, ilha de São Jorge, Açores, filho de João Sousa e Maria Sousa.

O Sr. Sousa deixa de luto a sua esposa, Maria Fátima Sousa, de Gustine, Califórnia, com quem foi casado durante 51 anos; o seu filho, Hélio Sousa (Adela), de Turlock, Califórnia; a sua irmã, Maria Filomena de Sousa, de São Jorge, Açores; a sua sobrinha e sobrinho, Sandra Silva e Amílcar Silva; o seu neto, Johnny Sousa, e esposa, Mireya; bem como os seus bisnetos, Jaxon Sousa e Landon Sousa.

Ja falecidos, os seus pais, João Sousa e Maria Sousa, e o seu irmão, Eduardo Teixeira Sousa.

O Sr. Sousa era membro da Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres, em Gustine, Califórnia, e da P.F.S.A.

O velório será na quarta-feira, dia 8 de julho de 2026, das 9h às 10h da manhã, na Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres, 370 Linden Ave., Gustine, Califórnia 95322. A Recitação do Terço e a Missa de Corpo Presente às10h da manhã, no mesmo local, seguindo-se o sepultamento no Cemitério Hills Ferry Cemetery District, 1331 West Stuhr Rd., Newman, Califórnia 95360.
