José Gonçalves Pedro

Mr. José Gonçalves Pedro, age 83 “Entered into Rest” on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Doctors’ Medical Center in Modesto, CA. He was born in Ribeirinha, Terceira, Azores and has lived in Escalon, CA for 8 years. He was the founder of the Portuguese Filarmonica Band, Artesia D.E.S. of Artesia, CA and the Founder of the Filarmonica Azores Band of Escalon. Mr. Pedro also played music for Filarmonica Recreio dos Lavradores, Ribeirinha, and Recreio dos Artistas both of Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Azores. He had a passion for music and the best of all spending quality time with his family. Mr. Pedro is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Nelsa Pedro of Escalon; Two Sons – Joe Pedro and his wife Sandie of Lindsay, CA and Louis Pedro and his wife Theresa

of Ontario, CA; Daughter – Nancy Martins and her husband Frank of Escalon; Sister – Vitalina Ventura of Ribeirinha, Terceira, Azores;

Brother-in-Law – Jose Chibante of Hilmar, CA; Two Sister-in-Laws – Teresa Parreira of Angra do Herosimo, Terceira, Azores and Virginia Pedro of Ribeirinha, Terceira, Azores; 7 Grandchildren; Louis Pedro, Jr., Joe R. Pedro, Brian Pedro, John Pedro, Michael Pedro, Frank Martins, Jr. and Brianna Martins; Four Great Grandchildren – Joe G. Pedro, Luke Pedro and two on the way. Several Nephews and Nieces in California and Azores.

Mr. Jose G. Pedro was Preceded in Death by his Parents; Francisco & Eugenia Pedro.

Services: Visitation – Friday, November 28, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and both will be held at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main St., Turlock, CA. Combined Rosary and Funeral Mass – Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive St., Oakdale, CA. Internment – Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John’ Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Rd., Escalon.
