Maria Georgina Vieira Drumond, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old.
Maria was born on April 23, 1939, in Fonte do Bastardo, Terceira, Açores, to Francisco S. Gomes and Alice V. Gomes. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, David Mendes Drumond, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.
In 1959, Maria and David moved their family to Angola, where they lived for 16 years before returning to the United States. They settled in Artesia, California, and in 1980 moved to Turlock, where they made their home and remained ever since.
Maria was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and would do anything for them. Family was always at the center of her life. She also had a special love for flowers and found comfort and joy in caring for them. A woman of deep faith, Maria prayed the Rosary every day and carried her faith with her throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband, David Mendes Drumond; her son, David Mendes; her daughter, Fatima Mendes (Gilbert); her brother, Manuel Gomes; her sister, Fermina Borges (José); her granddaughter, Jessica Lee Churchill-Vogt (Robin); her great-grandchildren, Gizelle Dior Monet Mendes, Kaylyn Nicole Mendes, Lilah Churchill-Vogt, and Logan Churchill-Vogt, along with many nieces, nephews, sister's-in-law, brother's-in-law and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, David Anthony Mendes, and her parents, Francisco S. Gomes and Alice V. Gomes.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main, Turlock, California 9538.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption, 1343 W. Greenway Avenue, Turlock, California 95380, committal Service will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, California 95380.
Pallbearers will be Luis Brum, Carlos Drumonde, Mike Kolodzeij, Joe Drumonde, Ray Trujillo, Julio Silva and Ron Dias.
May Maria’s soul rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord, and may her memory live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

A Senhora Drumond nasceu em Fonte do Bastardo, ilha Terceira, Açores, filha de Francisco S. Gomes e Alice V. Gomes.
Deixa de luto o seu marido David Mendes Drumond com quem foi casada durante 67 anos; o seu filho, David Mendes; a sua filha, Fatima Mendes (Gilbert) todos de Turlock, California; o seu irmão, Manuel Gomes de Los Banos, California; a sua irmã, Fermina Borges (José) de Artesia, California; a sua neta, Jessica Lee Churchill-Vogt (Robin); os seus bisnetos, Gizelle Dior Monet Mendes, Kaylyn Nicole Mendes, Lilah Churchill-Vogt e Logan Churchill-Vogt; além de muitos sobrinhos, sobrinhas, cunhadas, cunhados e demais familiares.
Foi precedida na morte pelo seu neto, David Anthony Mendes, e pelos seus pais, Francisco S. Gomes e Alice V. Gomes.
O velório será realizada na segunda-feira, dia 28 de setembro de 2026, das 4:00 às 7:00 da tarde, seguido da Recitação do Terço às 7:00 da noite, na Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, Califórnia 95380.
A Missa do corpo presente será celebrada na terça-feira, dia 29 de setembro de 2026, às 11:00 da manhã, na Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, 1343 W. Greenway Avenue, Turlock, Califórnia 95380, seguindo-se-o sepultamento no Cemitério no Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, Califórnia 95380.
