Maria de Fátima Oliveira passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at the age of 82, in the loving presence of her family. She was surrounded by the love and care of those who meant the most to her.
Maria de Fátima was born January 8, 1944, in Fontinhas, Terceira, Açores, and was a longtime resident of Turlock, California, where she lived for the past 46 years. She was the beloved matriarch of her family, a woman of deep and devout faith whose life was defined by her love for God, her family, and others.
She had a special way of showing her love, she fed people. Her kitchen was a place where family and friends were always welcomed and cared for. She was especially known for her papas de arroz, a beloved rice pudding that she made with such love that it became one of the things she was famous for among her family and those who knew her.
Maria de Fátima loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly and treasured the time she spent caring for them. She found joy in cooking, knitting, helping those around her. Above all, she was a woman of prayer. Her faith was at the center of her life, and she remained devoted to God and to her Catholic faith throughout her life.
Maria de Fátima was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock. She was also involved with Teams of Our Lady, Cursos de Cristandade, and the Our Lady of the Assumption Church Choir. Her faith community was an important part of her life, and she gave generously of her time, her talents, and her heart.
She is survived by her beloved children and their families: Manuel Oliveira (Nellie) and their children, Melanie Lopes (Michael), Jason Oliveira (Jessica); Del Oliveira (Yvonne), and Del’s son, Anthony Oliveira (Hope); Joe Oliveira (Ronna) and their children, Lisa Oliveira (Andrew), Megan Peters (Anthony), Joey Oliveira (Ines), Alex Oliveira (Danielle), Taeya Castro, Talan Castro, and Hudson Oliveira;Rosemary Arriola (Robert) and their children, Johnny Handwerk and Robby Arriola; Paul Oliveira (Brianna) and their children, Andrew Oliveira and Addison Oliveira; her great-grandchildren: Axton Peters, Ava Lopes, Mila Peters, Landon Lopes, Emma Oliveira, Kolette Peters, Wren Peters, Lucy Jo Oliveira, Levi Lopes, and Catherine Arminda. Maria Fátima is also survived by her siblings, Manuel Toledo (Maria de Lourdes), Evangelina Arruda (Carlos), and Dimas Toledo (Mary); her sisters-in-law, Matilde Toledo and Maria de Lourdes Toledo; and many beloved godchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramiro Linhares Oliveira; her parents, Alvaro de Meneses Toledo and Elvira Borges Toledo; her daughter-in-law Arminda Oliveira; and her brothers, Alvaro Borges Toledo and Adelino Borges Toledo.
Maria de Fátima will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, gentle spirit, and the many ways she cared for those around her. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, love, and service. Her prayers, her cooking, her kindness, and the love she poured into generations of her family will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Road, Turlock, California 95380.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Road, Turlock, California 95380, followed by a Committal Service at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, California 95380.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Oliveira, Johnny Handwerk, Jason Oliveira, Joey Oliveira, Alex Oliveira, Hudson Oliveira, Andrew Oliveira, and Talan Castro.
May Maria de Fátima rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord. May her soul find eternal peace and may the light of her faith continue to shine through the family she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Maria de Fátima Oliveira faleceu pacificamente no dia 3 de setembro de 2026, aos 82 anos de idade, na presença amorosa da sua família. Esteve rodeada pelo carinho e pelos cuidados daqueles que mais amava.
A Sra. Oliveira nasceu no dia 8 de janeiro de 1944, na freguesia das Fontinhas, ilha Terceira, Açores, e foi residente de longa data em Turlock, Califórnia, onde viveu durante os últimos 46 anos. Foi a amada matriarca da sua família, uma mulher de fé profunda e devota, cuja vida foi marcada pelo amor a Deus, à sua família e ao próximo.
Tinha uma maneira muito especial de demonstrar o seu amor: alimentava as pessoas. A sua cozinha era um lugar onde familiares e amigos eram sempre recebidos com carinho, generosidade e cuidado. Era especialmente conhecida pelas suas papas de arroz, um delicioso arroz-doce que preparava com tanto amor e dedicação e pelo qual ficou famosa entre a sua família e todos aqueles que tiveram o privilégio de o provar.
A Sra. Oliveira amava profundamente os seus filhos, netos e bisnetos e estimava muito o tempo que passava a cuidar deles. Encontrava alegria na cozinha, no tricô e em ajudar todos aqueles que a rodeavam. Acima de tudo, era uma mulher de oração. A sua fé esteve sempre no centro da sua vida, permanecendo profundamente devota a Deus e à sua fé católica ao longo de toda a sua vida.
A Sra. Oliveira foi uma dedicada paroquiana da Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, em Turlock. Esteve também envolvida nas Equipas de Nossa Senhora, nos Cursos de Cristandade e no Coro da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção. A sua comunidade de fé ocupava um lugar muito importante na sua vida, à qual dedicou generosamente o seu tempo, os seus talentos e o seu coração.

A Missa do Corpe Presente será celebrada na quinta-feira, dia 10 de setembro de 2026, às 10:30 da manhã, na Igreja Católica de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, situada em 2602 S. Walnut Road, Turlock, Califórnia 95380, seguindo-se a Cerimónia de Sepultura no Cemitério Memorial de Turlock, situado em 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, Califórnia 95380.
