Our dear mother passed away peacefully in Turlock, California at the age of 91 after a lengthy decline in health and a recent encounter with Covid. She was surrounded by the profound love of her extended family and her caregivers.
Marilyn was born in Muscoda, Wisconsin to Jean Opal Sherman and Michael Collins Greene. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Minnesota and then to Jackson, Michigan where our mother graduated from Jackson High School in 1949. She played on the high school tennis team. After graduating from high school her family moved to Oakland, California where her father was employed at The Oakland Tribune.
In California, she quickly was employed as a secretary at Albers Feed and Seed and started dating our father, John Shore. Shortly after meeting each other, they married and started a family. In 1962 our father made a career move to Modesto and eventually founded Shore Chemical Company in Turlock. She was a wonderful mother to her four children and learned to can fruits and vegetables in the summers. She loved classical music, knitting, sewing, cooking, and traveling, but most of all she had a passionate love for reading. She just loved the sight and smell of a new book. She had a keen interest in biographies, history, and mysteries. Toward the end of her life, she became a huge fan of books written by Agatha Christie.
While in Modesto our mother worked for the Modesto Police Department and then later moved to Turlock and continued her career with MedicAlert Foundation for 30 years.
She was very proud of her paternal grandparent's ancestry. Her grandfather and grandmother both immigrated to the U.S. from the region around what is now known as Slovakia in 1894 and 1900, respectively.
She is dearly loved and will be forever missed. She was predeceased by her sister Marjorie and her brother Lowell. She is survived by her children: John Shore, Jr. (Debi), Louise Cooper (Bud), Marjorie Lee (Chris), and Daniel Shore, as well as her grandchildren Sara Berger, David Shore, Megan Lee Sousoulas, Alex Shore, Jonathan Cooper and Andrew Lee. Her great grandchildren are Stella Berger, Lucca Berger and Hudson Lee.
Our family wishes to give thanks to all the caregivers at Brandel Manor in Turlock. Also, a very warm thank you to Covenant Care Hospice and their dedicated staff for all of their support in her final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.whitehurstnortondiasfunerals.com for the Shore family.
