Martin “Marty” Ray Zickefoose, 64, was born in Merced, California, and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2026. For the past 17 years, he made his home in Hilmar, California, where he became a beloved member of his church and community.
Marty was a devoted husband, church leader, and faithful servant of Christ. His life was marked by a sincere love for God and a desire to share the Gospel with others. Whether speaking with a lifelong friend or a complete stranger, Marty was always looking for an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus and the hope found in Him.
A longtime and active member of Hilmar First Baptist Church, Marty faithfully served in many capacities throughout the years. He was especially passionate about teaching God's Word, leading Senior Adult Bible Study classes and volunteering with Vacation Bible School, where he enjoyed helping children learn about Christ. He also served on the church leadership team, helping guide decisions, support ministries, and strengthen the church's mission within the community.
Marty was known for his servant's heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He quietly gave of his time, encouragement, and talents without seeking recognition. His faith was not something he simply professed, it was evident in the way he lived, served, and cared for those around him.
Outside of church, Marty enjoyed many interests that reflected his enthusiasm for life. He loved attending classic car shows and had a remarkable knowledge of music. He could recall the title of a song, the year it was released, who wrote it, the members of the band, and countless other details that often amazed those around him. He also loved the desert and often spoke of his dream of retiring there with his beloved wife, Linda, and spending their days together enjoying the beauty and peace of the landscape he cherished.
Above all, Marty treasured the life he built with his wife, Linda. Together they shared 25 years of marriage, creating a life centered on faith, friendship, and service to others.
Marty is survived by his wife, Linda Zickefoose; his son, Adam Zickefoose; his daughter, Elizabeth Madulara; his mother, Peggy Gregory; his sister, Becky Walli; his brother, Randy Welker; and his granddaughter, Adyson Zickefoose. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Ray.
Though his passing was unexpected, those who knew Marty take comfort in the promises of Scripture and the assurance of his faith in Jesus Christ. He leaves behind a legacy of faithful service, Christian leadership, and a life devoted to sharing God's love with others. He will be remembered with deep respect, gratitude, and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service for Marty will be held, Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Hilmar First Baptist Church 20038 2nd Street, Hilmar, California, 95324.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in Marty's honor to Hilmar First Baptist Church to support the ministries and mission work that were so important to him throughout his life.
