Mary Lou Lourenco, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Hilmar, California on Thursday, July 3, 2025. She was 66 years old and had made Hilmar her home for the past 45 years.
Born in the village of Doze Ribeiras, on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal, Mary was the daughter of Maria Sousa and Manuel Nunes. She came to the United States and built a life rooted in faith, love, and family.
Mary was a devoted parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, where her faith was a constant source of strength. She was active in her community and church, serving as past president and secretary of the Atwater Pentecost and as a member of Nossa Senhora de Fátima of Thorton.
She was a woman of many talents—an exceptional quilter, a gifted crocheter, and baker whose warmth filled every room. But above all, Mary cherished her family. She adored her nieces and nephews, and her great-nieces and great-nephews brought her immeasurable joy. Being surrounded by her loved ones was her greatest happiness.
Mary is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jerry M. Lourenco of Hilmar; her siblings Manuel S. Nunes of Merced, California, and Fatima Monteiro (Joe) of Hilmar, California; and her brothers-in-law Frank Lourenco (Maria Irene) of Atwater, and Antonio Lourenco (Serafina) of Los Banos. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Maria Nunes; her father-in-law Jermias Machado Lourenco; and her mother-in-law Maria Almerinda Lourenco.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main, Turlock, CA 95380-4814.
A rosary and funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N Soderquist Rd, Turlock, CA 95380.
Mary’s warmth, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Nasceu nas Doze Ribeiras, Terceira, Açores, filha de Maria Sousa e Manuel Nunes.
A Sra. Lourenco deixa de luto o seu esposo, com quem foi casada durante 44 anos, Jermias M. Lourenço, de Hilmar; os seus irmãos Manuel S. Nunes, de Merced, Califórnia, e Fátima Montero (Joe), de Hilmar, Califórnia; os seus cunhados Frank Lourenço (Maria Irene), de Atwater, e António Lourenço (Serafina), de Los Banos. Deixa também muitos sobrinhos, sobrinhas e outros familiares e amigos.
Foi precedida na morte pelos seus pais, Manuel e Maria Nunes; pelo seu sogro Jermias Machado Lourenço e pela sua sogra Maria Almerinda Lourenço.
A Sra. Lourenço era paroquiana da Igreja Católica do Santo Rosário em Hilmar, foi presidente da Irmandade do Espírito Santo de Atwater nos anos de 2004 e 2013, secretária da mesma irmandade, e membro da Irmandade de Nossa Senhora de Fátima de Thorton.
O velorio será na terça-feira, 15 de julho de 2025, das 4 às 8 da noite, na casa funerária Whitehurst-Norton-Dias, 286 West Main, Turlock, CA 95380.
A recitação do terço e a missa de corpo presente será na quarta-feira, 16 de julho de 2025, às 10h da manha, na Igreja Católica do Santo Rosário 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324, seguindo-se o enterro, no Cemitério Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N Soderquist Rd, Turlock, CA 95380.
