Oldemira Teixeira, 79, of Newman passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Serreta, Terceira, Azores on July 12, 1941 to Maria dos Milagros DeSousa and Joaquin Vital Pereira. She married the love of her life, Bernardino, in 1963 and together they brought their Portuguese work-ethic to the United States and set about creating a loving, comfortable home for their family. Throughout her life, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and wife and dedicated her time to carrying for her three children and home, as well as working various jobs. She embodied unconditional love and selflessly cared for her bedridden mother and husband during their final years.
A homebody at heart, Oldemira was happiest when spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she helped raise. Holidays were always fun and special at her house. She had a great sense of humor and a creative streak that came out in her embroidery and cooking. Oldemira had a special place in her heart for the poor and her beloved cat, Misty. Our mom and Vavo was enormously loved and will be greatly missed.
Oldemira was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernardino; parents; and older brother, Manuel Pereira. She is survived by a daughter, Nelia Teixeira Chen (John Chen) and grandchildren Nicholas, Ryan, and Casey of Alhambra; a son, Nelio Teixeira of Newman and grandchild, Christina Teixeira (James Pitner) of Sacramento; and another son, Emanuel Teixeira of Newman and grandchildren, Andrew (Masy Hansen-Teixeira) of Valley Springs, Brady of Petaluma, Jake of Petaluma, and Matthew of Newman. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Drew; two sisters-in-law, Maria Gomes of Gustine and Ana Vicencia of San Leandro; a brother-in-law, José Enrique Teixeira (Maria Amelia) of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Ariel Teixeira of Alameda; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Oldemira Teixeira to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
