Tom was truly one of a kind. Outspoken, honest, and never one to sugarcoat his opinions, he was a man with no filter but a heart that was always in the right place. Beneath his tough exterior was someone who would do just about anything for anyone in need. He spent his life working in masonry, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic and hardworking nature.
For 18 years, Tom shared his life with his beloved wife, Jill, who affectionately called him "Bug." Together, they built a beautiful blended family filled with love, laughter, and undoubtedly a little chaos. Tom adored Jill and made sure she knew it, often spoiling her and doing everything he could to make her happy. They were the best of friends, and even when he drove her crazy, Jill knew that everything he did came from his desire to take care of her and their family.
Family meant everything to Tom. He embraced the role of father and grandfather wholeheartedly, stepping in wherever he was needed and loving his family as his own. Known affectionately as "Papa Tom" to his grandchildren, he took great pride in being there for them. Together, he and Jill opened their hearts and home to adopt and raise their grandchildren, a true reflection of his commitment to family.
When Tom wasn't busy looking after everyone else, he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He could often be found relaxing with a cold Budweiser, watching NASCAR, or cheering on his beloved Miami Dolphins. He was a man who enjoyed life on his own terms and never pretended to be anyone other than himself.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jill Goodwin; his children, Melanie Soares, Shad Goodwin, Angelina Oliveira, Anthony Oliveira, Daniel Oliveira (Dana), Kimberly McNaught (Steven), Reanna Oliveira, Johnny Oliveira, and Brandon Oliveira; his grandchildren, Logan Soares, Savannah Goodwin, Maribel Reed (Austin), Vanessa Castillo, Mia Castillo (Nick), Ernie Castillo Jr., Marissa Oliveira, Natani Oliveira, Kaylee Oliveira, Alana Oliveira, Judy Oliveira, Alicia McNaught, Dylan McNaught, Jake Goodwin, Ryder Goodwin, Noah Goodwin, Jaxson Goodwin, and Gunner Goodwin; and his great-grandchildren, Mason Reed, Amelia Reed, and Caden Castillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Goodwin, and his son-in-law, Ernie Castillo.
Tom may not have always had a filter, but no one ever had to question where they stood with him or how much he cared. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family he helped build and hold together, and a love that was shown more through his actions than his words. He will be remembered for his big personality, his generous heart, and, above all, the way he took care of the people he loved.
A Celebration of Life honoring Tom will be announced at a later date.
