William Alves Brasil, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Topo, São Jorge, Açores, William made his home in Atwater, California, where he built a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a willingness to help anyone in need.
William shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Brenda. After dating for four years, they married and built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Their courtship included weekly dates, long telephone conversations, and letters scented with Charlie perfume, a detail fondly remembered by family members to this day. This July, William and Brenda would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Throughout their marriage, William remained a true gentleman who adored his wife. During Brenda's health challenges, he became her devoted caregiver, caring for her with patience, compassion, and unconditional love.
Together, William and Brenda raised three children and created a home where family always came first. William was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and steadfast protector. His children remember him as the person they could always count on, whether they needed advice, encouragement, or simply someone in their corner. He believed deeply in investing in his family, helping his children purchase their first cars, supporting them through college, and teaching them valuable life skills. From riding bicycles and learning to drive to speaking a little Portuguese, William took pride in passing along lessons that would serve his children throughout their lives.
Known for his resourcefulness and willingness to help, William was the family member everyone called when something needed fixing. Whether it was a fence, garage door, sink, toilet, dresser, or swing set, he would always find a way. His family affectionately referred to his handyman skills as "1-800-CALL-A-PORTUGEE." Even when faced with something unfamiliar, William's response was often, "I've never done it before, but I'll try." More often than not, he succeeded.
Nothing brought William greater joy than being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, Weston, Bronson, and Alaina, and they could do no wrong in his eyes. He loved spending time on the floor playing with them, making them laugh, and creating memories they will cherish forever. Even when his health declined, he made every effort to attend their baseball and soccer games. Being "Pa" was one of the greatest blessings of his life, and Weston proudly considered him his best friend.
William was also an avid sports fan. He passionately supported the Dallas Cowboys and the Portuguese National Soccer Team. Some of his family's favorite memories were made watching games alongside him. His excitement was legendary, once becoming so enthusiastic after a Portugal goal that he accidentally punched a hole in the ceiling while celebrating. During Portugal's victory in the 2016 UEFA European Championship Final, William abandoned his long-standing household rule of keeping the television volume low and turned it up to celebrate the game-winning goal. He watched that championship match countless times and never grew tired of reliving the moment.
William enjoyed simple pleasures as well. He cherished time spent with family, including trips to the Atwater shooting range followed by lunch together. He was known for his faithful black Dallas Cowboys hat and his well-worn black sweatpants, items he refused to part with despite their age. Those simple belongings have now become treasured reminders of the man his family loved so dearly.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Brasil; his daughter, Cherie White (Johnathan); his son, Devin Brasil and his fiancée, Maria; his brothers, Fernando Brasil, Carlos Brasil, and Jim Brasil (Rosa); his sister, Noelma Console (Chris); and his cherished grandchildren, Weston White, Bronson White, and Alaina White.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Brasil; his parents, Manuel and Luisa Brasil; his brothers, Joe Brasil and Helder Brasil; and his sister, Judite Brasil.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main Street, Turlock, California.
A Chapel Service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, followed by interment at Turlock Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chris Ivey, Chris Console, Devin Brasil, Johnathan White, Steve Brasil, and Fernando Brasil.
William will be remembered for his generous heart, his unwavering devotion to his wife and family, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the love he shared so freely throughout his life. Though his family will miss hearing him cheer for Portugal, seeing his Dallas Cowboys hat, and calling on him whenever something needed fixing, they take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind and the example of love, loyalty, and dedication that he set for all who knew him.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
