Agnes Fulgham DeJarnette

TUSCALOOSA Agnes Fulgham DeJarnette, age 89, died Dec. 14, 2011, at Heritage Health Care Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ron McKay officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

Agnes Fulgham DeJarnette was born in rural Pickens County in 1922 to Harlin and Nona Fulgham. She was a graduate of Druid City Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Alabama.

Agnes was very proud to be a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps at Northern General Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Camp Gordon Johnson in Carrabelle, Fla. She was a Surgical Registered Nurse who treated returning soldiers. While in the military, she met Thomas H. DeJarnette, whom she fell in love with and married in 1945.

Agnes' nursing career continued through 1984 and included employment with the VA Medical Center, Druid City Hospital and the University of Alabama Student Health Center, from which she retired.

She was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Concord Sunday School class.

Agnes Fulgham DeJarnette is survived by a son, Don DeJarnette (Sydney); a daughter, Carol Jasper (Joey); sister, Helen Branton; a granddaughter, Micky Hicks (Robert); grandson, David Beasley (Desiree); and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Jimmy Hicks and David and Joey Beasley.

Pallbearers will be David Beasley, David Beasley Jr., Joey Beasley, Pat Burkhalter, Robert Hicks Thomas Hicks, Alston Shepherd, and Rusty Ward.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Tuskaloosa Internal Medicine, Caring Days Adult Day Care Center, Heritage Health Care and Rehab, and Hospice of West Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Caring Days Adult Day Care Center, and Hospice of West Alabama.
