

Annie C. Newman also known to many as “Lil Bit” was born September 26,1954, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The 4th of 12 children, Annie knew from an early age that she loved her family and dedicated her life to being there for others. A graduate from Druid High school, Annie competed in softball with various teams in the community. She was a force to be reckoned with at short stop. Accepting Christ into her life at an early age, she kept this scripture dear to her heart. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. Annie’s ultimate joy was her 4 children and her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Loving all her family immensely, Annie helped raise several nieces and nephews and always wanted the best for everyone. With high morals and integrity, Annie valued helping those around her spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially. Being a woman of God, she was also a great listener, gave good advice, and was filled with so much wisdom. She was an amazing cook and spades player; loved watching Lifetime, enjoyed family events, and was a huge fan of Auburn football.
Annie was hardworking, earning the Raptar award and Support Employee of the Year at University Place Elementary School. Her passion to make others happy by providing great customer service was shown past just the household.
For over 45 years, Annie served in the community by leading youth ministries, Bible study, being an Usher, choir ministry, serving at the shelter and soup kitchen, and later becoming First Lady.
Annie transitioned from labor to reward on April 3, 2022, her parents, two sisters, Earlene, and Gladys, all preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish memory her loving and devoted husband Cordell Newman; Four children: Gerald, Daniel, Victoria, and Christopher. Six sisters: Dorothy (Joe), Mary (Willie), Linda (Rodney), Pam (William), Marietta (Willie) and Tabitha; Three brothers: Alonzo, Robert, and Rodney; Eight grandchildren, Two great grandchildren, and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends all who will deeply miss Annie “Lil Bit” Carlisle Newman.
A viewing will take place at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd E., Tuscaloosa AL 35405 on Friday, April 8th from 5pm-8pm and Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11 am.
