

Arlis S. Booth, age 83, a longtime resident of Booth Estates Northport, Ala., died June 2, 2017 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be Northport Church of God at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 with visitation from 5- 6:30 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Greg Strickland and the Rev. Tony Pope will officiate with burial in Memory Hill Gardens Monday at 1 p.m.He was a 1951 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and was employed at Gulf States Paper Mill until its closing. He then became the lead carpenter and electrician for the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education until his retirement.Arlis was a highly skilled carpenter and built many homes in Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas. Arlis truly loved the Lord, and was a long time member of the Northport Church of God. It was his greatest joy to be in Church worshipping God, and for many years he played the guitar in church until he was no longer able to do so.Arlis was dearly loved by his family and will truly be missed. He has "fought a good fight, and finished his course and kept his faith" and we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Lord he served.He was preceded in death by his son, Danny W. Booth; parents, Roy and Berta Mae Booth; step-mother, Mary I. Booth; brother, R. Jerome Booth; and sister, Ollie "Sue" Quinn.Survivors include his two sons, Michael Dewayne Haynes of Coker, Ala. Kevin A. Booth of Northport, Ala. and one daughter, Denice A. Gray (Ervin) of Coker, Ala.; one brother, R. Eugene Booth (Teresa) of Northport, Ala.; two sisters, Katherine Wheatley of Northport, Ala. and Linda Crocker (Russell) of Northport, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and others other relatives.Pallbearers will be Donnie Pierson, Chris Booth, Rodney Booth, Joe Camp, Terry Wheatley, C.W. Booth, McCoy Booth, and Josh Booth.Honorary pallbearers are his faithful caregivers, Lynn Rutledge, Stephanie Bolton and Angie Free who truly cared for him with love and respect.
