ORANGE BEACH, ALA. - Barbara Hunt Martin died June 3, 2016, in Orange Beach, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Memory Hill Gardens.
Mrs. Martin was born in Boaz, Alabama to Dr. Marston T. Hunt and Margaret Spradlin Hunt. She graduated from Boaz High and the University of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Willis Clay Martin.
Mrs. Martin taught at the Hutchison School in Memphis and after staying at home with her sons, she taught at Drew Middle School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and at Hillcrest in Tuscaloosa. She was active in civic activities, serving on the park and recreation board in Memphis and Arab. She was president of the women's club in Arab and in Aquia Harbor, Virginia. Mrs. Martin has served her sorority, Delta Zeta, well at the local, state, and national level. She was one of first certified ACBL directors.
Since 2002, Mrs. Martin has enjoyed her dear friends and neighbors in Orange Beach.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her three sons, Robert and his family, Donna, Alyssa, and Marianne; Chris and his family, Jan, Kai, Ian, Molly, Morgan, Randal, and Stuart; and Marston and his family, Sherri, Cole, Clay, and Mason
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, in memory of Barbara and her late husband.
