

TUSCALOOSA | Betty Blake Jennings, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 16, 2014 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Dr. William ""Butch"" Drake and Milford Waters officiating, Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard A. Jennings; parents, H.T. and Vera P. Blake; infant son, Jon Jennings; sister, Katura Blake King; and brother, James Blake. Survivors include daughter, Dana J. Hartley Oglesby (Randy); son, Richard Keith Jennings (Sara Beth); sister, Helen McGill; sister-in-law, Barbara Blake; two grandchildren, Blake and Brock Hartley, and many nieces and nephews. Ms. Jennings was a native of Blake, Randolph County, Alabama, but a resident of Tuscaloosa County for more than 70 years. She spent her career as an administrative assistant for several State of Alabama offices, including the University of Alabama, Alabama Fire College, and Shelton State Community College. She and Richard, her husband of 48 years, were faithful members and elders of the Cottondale Christian Church, where she served as Moderator of the Board and many years as organist and soloist. She was a member of the Tuscaloosa Community Singers and participated in many of their performances. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and many friends. After retirement, she volunteered for Hospice of West Alabama. Pallbearers are Russ Blake, Randy Compton, David Ember, James E. ""Buddy"" McGee, Chris McGee, Harold Ward, and Charles West. Honorary pallbearers are: Liz Duff and Bob Buntin, Dr. John Dishuck, William ""Butch"" and Ella Drake, Thomas and Joy Duncan, James Harkins, Sue Hartley, Fisher and Caroline Humphries, Carole Miller and Visiting Angels Home Care, Lisa Miller, Oma Miller, Earl and Kaye Mitchell, Larry and Sharon Mumbleau, David and Lara Drake Parker, David and Kay Ryan, Scott and Melissa Ryan, Steve Sims, Dr. John Summerford, Jimmy and Clara Warren, Milford and Judy Waters, Charles and Debbi West, Tommy Woods, Cottondale Christian Church family, former and current employees of Shelton State Community College, former and current employees of Hospice of West Alabama.
