Betty Lee Scoggins

Betty Lee Scoggins, age 93, of Marietta, GA (formerly of Duncanville, AL) passed away on September 5, 2026. She was born in 1933 to Sarah Samantha Price. She graduated from Duncanville High School. She married Cecil Leon Scoggins in 1953 and made a home with him in Norfolk, VA. They had a daughter, Cynthia in 1954. From there, the U.S. Navy sent them to Nice, France 1958 for 20 months. Then they had orders to return to Norfolk where they bought their first house. They had a son, Charles in 1960. After Leon’s Navy retirement, the family moved to a farm in Goldvein, VA 1970. Betty continued working for the Government until she retired in 1999.

She said that she did the best she could and tried to be successful. She loved to laugh, especially at the funny things her children would say. She said her proudest family moments were having her two children. She was also pleased with her career accomplishments.

On May 8, 1997, Betty received an award from the Government of the United States of America in recognition of Thirty Years of service signed by Commander G.R. Sterner, Naval Sea System Command.

On August 3, 1999, Betty received an award for Thirty-Two years of Dedicated Service to the Department of Defense (USA, USMC, USN). She had worked at Fort Belvoir, Quantico, Crystal City, and the Pentagon as a Budget Analyst.

She enjoyed these favorite pastimes listed, in her own words: “I baked, painted paint by number pictures, embroidered, sewed clothes, (and I liked to) travel the countryside with Leon (husband).” She also loved gardening and bird watching. When asked what she loved most, she answered, “My kids.” This certainly was to include her grandchildren! Her favorite color was blue and her favorite songs were “In the Garden” and Nat King Cole “Unforgettable”. She was also a Dolly Parton fan, “I Will Always Love You”.

Betty was a Christian and read her Bible devoutly. Some verses especially close to her heart are: Be still and know that I Am God. Psalm 46:10 and With God All Things Are Possible. Matthew 19:26

Betty will be remembered as kind and generous, sweet and beautiful. She had beautiful blue eyes to go with her red curly hair and an infectious laugh. She hoped people would learn patience from her. Her favorite charities were the local church, Samaritan’s Purse (for relief and evangelism across the globe), and St. Jude Hospital (for free children’s cancer treatment). Betty is preceded in death by husband, Cecil Leon Scoggins (1930-1994); grandson, David Alan Martin (1982-2005); mother, Sarah Samantha Price (1899-1971); grandmother Amanda Ila Clements Price (1889-1976); grandfather, James Franklin (Frank) Price (1874-1938); brothers Evie Clements Price (1911-1973); Emmett Franklin Price, Sr (1915-1992); Ernest Brandon Price, Sr. (1917-2000); Elbert Venaugh Price (1919-1950); Delmar Theo Price (1921-1999); and James Roland Price (1929-1976); sisters Thelma Inez Price Windham (1924-1989); and Lora Doris (Dot) Price Richardson Toll (1929-1976).

Betty is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Marcia Weisbrod (Kenny); son, Charles Leon Scoggins, grandsons Kerry Lee Martin (Dawn); Mark Joseph Weisbrod (Leslie); granddaughter Emily Christine Weisbrod (Bret); great-grandsons John Corbin Martin, John (Jack) William Weisbrod; Bennett (Ben) Stuart Headley; Alexander (Alex) Boyd Headley; great-grand-daughters Lola Pink Conan Martin; Kendall Pitman (Josh); Lillian (Lily) Grace Weisbrod.

The family will receive guests between the hours of 10:00 am and 11:00 am on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Duncanville Baptist Church at 12103 Hwy 82 East, Duncanville, Alabama 35456.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Duncanville Baptist Church at 12103 Hwy 82 East, Duncanville, Alabama 35456.

A brief graveside service will follow at Clements Cemetery, Oakmulgee Division of the Talladega National Forest in Hale County, Alabama (Mapped in Township 23N, Range 7E, Section 18) (Alternate Route): Talladega National Forest Nf-170, Moundville, AL 35474
